"More like a useful advertisement than an app"
Version: Spiceworks 5.0
Pros
Don't see any
Cons
confusing, complicated, installs an app locally but there's so much advertising and other BS that the app is basically useless

"wonderful system administration tool"
Version: Spiceworks 4.7
Pros
supports, controls, inventories: windows, unix, printers, routers, switches, voip phones all on your desktop. One person can manage an entire network and a helpdesk with full reporting on all errors, warnings and violations.
Cons
some times a little slow on a medium servers but worth the wait for all it can do for free.
Summary
I manage 250 devices in 5 buildings from it, including running processes, micorsoft errors and warnings. I know when diskspace is low on user PCs and when a mailbox is too big. see bandwidth on a switchport or map a network, and there is a huge community to help me fix things and correct problems I see.
I don't know why every shop doesn't have this installed and use to to replace the expensive MOM packeges. It can inventory every piece of software on every machine and give you control of it. Spiceworks Rocks!!!! -

"Great Product!! Even better price."
Version: Spiceworks 3.0.23470
Pros
PRICE. Good network monitoring, Great speed when not doing a network scan. Helpdesk portion is as good if not better then VERY expensive alternatives.
Cons
Ads, although I have not gotten one email.
The ads are not that bad, at least they are targetedSummary
We have been using Spiceworks for about 6 months now. We did alot of research on what to use. and started using spiceworks as a test. It is a great product. We have been very happy, and will continue to use it for the long run. we have really only been using the helpdesk portion on a daily basis. but works great.

"A Good Tool"
Version: Spiceworks 3.6.33156
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Very nice free network monitoring program. This application is already powerful but they keep going. This program will help take control of the network. There isn't alot of help documentation (that i have found) but there is a nice forum. -
"Amazing product, we still can't figure how it's free"
Version: Spiceworks 3.1.26392
Pros
This blows the guts out of our Access-based asset inventory. Frankly, it blows the bones out of the competing products we evaluated (except, maybe, SysAid), and it's free!! The advertising windows are an acceptable price to pay.
Cons
The advertising window -- but that's part of the bargain for a free product that performs better than most others we could find to investigate. Also, a few problems because it's agentless, but my boss insisted on an agentless AI program.
Summary
The folks who rated it one star and claimed there were superior products failed to name those superior products, or how much they cost. Visit the SpiceWorks website user groups -- you'll start getting the clue that they certainly don't agree with the one star rating.
My techs and I were shaking our heads today as we discussed this product -- how can it be so good and be free -- it doesn't seem to add up. We've told our Access asset inventory database, and our Outlook-based tasks manger not to let the door hit them in the butt on their way out. Spiceworks is a substantial step up in both regards. The Spiceworks Asset Manager and the HelpDesk features are substantially improving our asset tracking and our task management.
It's ability to alert us to problems with assets (e.g. disk space running out), to track software and who's installing what without permission -- the list of pluses is long. I'm done bragging it up -- the sucker's free, go get a copy, install it in 5 minutes, run your first network scan and take a look at the info if feeds back to you. If you think it's not impressive compared to other offerings on the market then I did something wrong during my asset inventory/helpdesk software evaluation phase. Do NOT take the one-star detractors at their work -- check this app out if you've got a spare hour to do it in. -
"Its free - And you get what you pay for..."
Version: Spiceworks 3.1.26392
Pros
Its free, the price can't be beat.
Cons
Not that full featured of a Network Monitoring product.
The ads and gazillion emails to buy sponsor products is annoying.Summary
If you have no budget then you can pay for the features with your time deleting the emails and ads. As a network Admin, there are soo many tools, spend a little and get a lot more. Your time is worth it. Better products for a little $ would include WUG, Dorado, dopplerVUE and Porttracker. If you must have free and willing to spend time, check out Nagios and Zenoss.

"AVG reports a potentially harmful program"
Version: Spiceworks 3.1.26392
Pros
Sounds great, as long as the problem reported by AVG doesn't really exist.
Cons
AVG Reported that the EXE package included a potentially harmful program, "HackTool. DHQ"
Summary
If there is supposed to be a valid use for "HackTool.DHQ" within the Spiceworks package, then a note should be included about a possible Anti-Virus message on some installations, to make sure we know whether it is intended to be there or it is something that has been injected by some malicious person.
