"So many great utilities, so little time"

wow is VersionTracker one of the best tools on the web or what? I was about to rate SpeedSearch when I saw the comment below about "Sonar Professional." I did a search for Sonar in VersionTracker. Did not find Sonar Pro but did find a totally different utility, Sonar. It looks like all of us should also have that utility. Thanks VT

Anyway, I've been using SpeedSearch for a very long time and cannot fault it (except for the interface, which others have commented on.)

I was in desperate need of a powerful search tool which could evaluate html files and find an embedded literal. It worked like a charm. Hats off to this company and their developers. Five Fat Stars for this SpeedSearch X - Mac OS X !!!!!!!

I take it all back. It works great. Just had to set default for all file types. A fine replacement for Patrick Maes"s Findtext. Pepper

I agree with Walter; this tool is really poor and old. It seems to be carbon.

      "Poor tool"

      Version: SpeedSearch X 2.2

      Summary

I am a Mac expert for years, consultant and technician working for a big publisher company.
Some days ago I have bought a competitor's product by Softobe called iPassepartout and the people who are using that in my company are very happy with it.
Just few minutes ago I have just seen a comment on this site, at the iPassepartout page, recommending SpeedSearch instead of that because SpeedSearch is better, faster, so I suppose I was wrong with my purchase... So ten seconds later I came here, downloaded the program, try it, and... I am sorry, this is not a program. First of all, I made the same search in the same folder with both the programs. iPassepartout found 4 files, I checked those files and they really matched the criteria. SpeedSearch found one file only. They both took the same time. 2nd, the technology used is by "second world war" as well as the interface design. For example it doesn't use threads at searching, so if I click on a menu or a pop-up menu, everything stops, and it doesn't use Quartz for rendering text, just to mention 2 cases. 3rd, it doesnt' show the file content, while iPassepartout does that for most of the text files, pdf, html, graphics, movies and songs. So for what I need it's unuseful. Yes, I agree it's only $10. This is a good point. Now, I am not native english, sorry if the world is not only u.s.a., sorry if I exist, but be sure I am native Mac 100% for years and years, and if that reviewer gave 2 stars to iPassepartout, SpeedSearch X should get minus 3 stars. I give it one star, the minimum here allowed.
