CNET Editors' review
We always appreciate completely free software, but this recording application lacks too many features to be more than a middle-of-the road offering. SoundCapture's interface is a snap to use, if a bit strange. When you start recording, you'll see a green display telling you it's twelve o'clock. However, you can't change the time or disable the clock. The color scheme also makes it tough to see some of the main window's wording. It's nice that SoundCapture gives you recording presets from sources such as a microphone, a CD player, and a line-in jack, but since the program lacks meters, setting the recording levels to avoid distortion is a tedious, trial-and-error process. We also missed a voice-activation feature, a full-blown scheduler, and the ability to capture audio in a format other than MP3. Still, if you don't have habitual or demanding recording needs and are short on cash, this program may be suitable.Publisher's Description

"Does what it offers"
Version: SoundCapture 1.1a
Pros
Basic sound capture
Cons
Not many if you are looking for a simple sound capture solution
Summary
Audacity can be used for sound capture, splitting, line level adjustments, etc. Still easy to use and more versatile.

"Don't download unless yu love keyloggers"
Version: SoundCapture 1.1a
Pros
None unless you are looking to spend hours trying to remove a virus.
Cons
This software also comes with a file called unwise.exe which you must download in order to use it. The file is a keylogger that is also full of spyware. If you enjoy viruses this is the software for you.

"Not what I was looking for"
Version: SoundCapture 1.1a
Pros
Was not what I was looking for
Cons
Was not what I was looking for. Could not capture sound from web/streaming source.
Summary
Seemed ok for what it would do. Did not try it's full capabilities since it was not a good match for my needs.

"They ruined this download!!! Forget it."
Version: SoundCapture 1.1a
Pros
NONE
I used to love this recorder & used it on 3 different computers. It made easy to record great sound qualty copies when I made home recorded midi orginals. BUT THAT IS NO MORECons
Impossible to use, at download they force you to accept their tool bar etc. No longer a way to skip this. Either let them hijack your computer or end the download. I Used to be able with a couple clicks to get around that. Not now.
Summary
With this new download requiring you to accept them as your default for several purposes that have nothing to do with sound recording this is not worth trying. They took my favorite soundcard recorder that I used to play my master recording CD. throw my player and then make my copies to post on the internet and they made it not acceptable to download. So now I am forced to find something else.

"Can't Uninstall!"
Version: SoundCapture 1.1a
Pros
I don't know. Never even used it.
Cons
I can't uninstall it! Keeps telling me it can't find some installlog.exe file or something like that. Asks me to download ANOTHER program inorder to uninstall it. WHAT?
Summary
Don't download this peace of chit! Wish I could give it negative stars.

Cons
could not get it installed on my new computer. Came up with a resource conflict.

"Problem with Windows 7 (64-bit)"
Version: SoundCapture 1.1a
Pros
None that I can see.
Cons
Crappy, kiddish, confusing interface. Shows access violation when started on Windows 7 (64-bit). Max recording quality only 128 kbps, no mono option.
Summary
A complete waste of time. When I tried recording, it claimed there was an error (in big glary green letters), for no reason at all, unless it's because it can't run on Windows 7 (64-bit).
This has been put together by idiots that are too influenced by stupid glary computer games. Yet another piece of junk fron Cnet that is uninstalled straight away. -
"Good Program"
Version: SoundCapture 1.1a
Pros
Loads faster and records at better quality than other audio capture programs
Cons
Well I get a error violation every time I open the program but still works... Also as explain doesn't have metering which is a bummer!
Summary
If they can fix these problems there would be no other program that could bet it! I like a program not on what it looks like but how well it works and how simple it is to use... Also I think it's pretty pointless giving an option to record lower than 128kbps the quality will be so compromised that there would be no need for it! So couple things I think would improve it would be offer metering to set ur level to about -3dB. Offer a choice to sample at 128, 192 and 320kbps or even offer loss-less WAV format.
Overall not a bad program will record and do the job!! -
"Does not work on Vista"
