Publisher's Description
From SmashBits:
SmashTunes shows you what song is being played by iTunes in the empty space of your Mac's menu bar, for those cases where you're not exactly sure what tune is buzzing in your head. Another great thing is that SmashTunes let's you control the most essential parts of iTunes from its menu, or by using keyboard shortcuts a.k.a. hot keys. This is great for skipping a song, or rating it. For those of us that are audiophiles but also find joy in the artwork of the albums you're listening to have a look at that as well.
What's new in this version: - improved the usability of setting keyboard shortcuts
- delayed start now works for Spotify too

"Super easy!"
Version: SmashTunes 1.5
Pros
Keyboard shortcuts are very handy! Especially for skipping and rating songs.
Cons
I'd like to be able to select a playlist directly (if possible via the keyboard).
Summary
The best thing about SmashTunes is that you always know what is playing. Before I used SmashTunes I had to go to iTunes every once in while when a track was playing I did not know. That was too distracting for me (when my workflow stops, it takes time for me to get back to what I was doing). I just love how I can now simply look at the menu bar to know what is playing. This should be standard OS X functionality!
The artwork is a nice extra, but I often turn it off, because it can take up too much screen space.
