CNET Editors' review
Simple Backup Tool promises to provide users with a quick and efficient way of keeping their files safe from crashes and hackers by storing them securely. While this sounds like a great idea, this software is flawed in so many ways the word "Simple" should be removed from the title.
The free download appears on the surface to be very easy to use. A basic menu consisting of "Backup," "About," and "Settings" options seems straightforward. In addition, there is a generous empty space for the backup log to chart actions.
Unfortunately, the appearance is the only thing simple about Simple Backup Tool. A trip to the About button doesn't provide a Help menu, but information about what version this is. A trip to the settings menu does actually provide a multitude of settings. However, the settings don't have much of a purpose, because the actual process of backing up files is so counterintuitive the settings are rendered useless.
Without a Help menu, users are left to fend for themselves to back up files. Clicking and dragging doesn't work and there is no obvious place to search your computer for files to back up. Pressing the "Backup" key simply does nothing.
Frustrating and directionless, Simple Backup Tool does not live up to its name. There are many back-up downloads available and we recommend trying them before this program.
Publisher's Description
From Ari Pikivirta:
Simple Backup Tool is a very simple application to automatically backup the content of one or more folders. You can specify the input folder and the backup location, and set the program to perform a backup every X minutes. It also offers the option to delete files in the backup folder that are no longer present in the original folder (mirroring). Suitable for the most basic backup needs, easy to use.

"They changed the program and it doesn't work!"
Version: Simple Backup Tool 1.5.0.63
Pros
It was a good simple program, before the last update.
Cons
It's no good if it doesn't work. At least I can't figure out how this new version works.
Summary
I was using this and getting all the updates. This last update removed all my saved files and won't backup anything. Looks like I'm looking for a new backup program.

"A good and easy to use litlle product"
Version: Simple Backup Tool 1.0.7 build 34
Pros
Easy to use and seems to work without any problem, and it is free - It's enough for me for saving my day by day routine work. I prefer Cobian Backup (as a freeware) but as long it doesn't work with Vista I'll use this version of Simple Backup Tool
Cons
Its limitations: specifically, I could not save miscellaneous files coming from different folders.

"Easy tool"
Version: Simple Backup Tool 1.0.6
Pros
I am backing up files to an external harddrive. I like the gui and log file right on the screen. Also has primitive scheduling capability where as most other freeware backup tools do not.
Cons
When backing up my C:\Users\user\Music folder, it will only copy the files in the root and not any further. It copies the iTunes folder but no files or folders below. Guessing there is an issue with a file type. There is a version 1.07 that I will try to download.
