ShareMouse Mouse and Keyboard Sharing lets you control network computers with one keyboard and mouse, and share files, too. Rolling your mouse to the edge of one PC's desktop moves control to the next PC and dims the first PC's screen. Moving the cursor back restores control to the first PC. There's a QuickJump hot key combo, too, and there's a Panic key that also reverts to the main system and even a password option. This free tool works fine, though it takes practice.

We installed ShareMouse on two networked Windows PCs. The installer can configure Windows Firewall and applicable services, but be sure to enable ShareMouse in your other antivirus and security software. The app's settings include hot keys, scroll speed, and choice of network adapters and ports as well as some Demo features. Under Data Exchange, we could enable Drag and Drop (A Demo feature) and Clipboard Synchronization, including a customizable hot key for pasting shared clipboard data. The Monitor Manager displays available monitors in a desktop window and also identifies each display with a large letter: A, B, and so on, as required.

We moused to the edge of our main PC's screen, and the cursor activated in the next PC's screen while the first screen dimmed. Huge arrows indicate control direction, even across a large room. We could use our mouse and keyboard normally in the active PC. But it takes a steady wrist to keep the mouse from jumping to the next PC (or back to the first) if you get too close to the edge, especially in widescreen displays. But ShareMouse Mouse and Keyboard Sharing actually controls multiple PCs with one mouse, one keyboard, and a little practice -- and for free.

"Best virtual KM I've seen"

February 12, 2016  |  By camozzij

2016-02-12 07:47:22  |  By camozzij

 |  Version: ShareMouse 3.0.30

Pros

- Easy setup / use
- Great customer service
- Seamless switching
- Most consistent connection I've seen

Cons

When bringing my work laptop back and forth, sometimes the monitors will get skewed, or the connection won't happen right away. This sometimes requires me to quit ShareMouse on both computers and restart them. I consider this a minor inconvenience for something that works so well most of the time.

Summary

I have tried two other products over the years: SynergyKM, and Teleport (for Mac). Neither of these come close to the consistency provided by ShareMouse. In simple terms, ShareMouse just works. With the other tools, I would regularly have connection issues that would be hard to recover from. With ShareMouse there have only been minor hiccups.

For those concerned about price, before I found ShareMouse I knew I'd willingly pay a similar rate if someone would just make Synergy / Teleport work better. I'm glad there's now an option out there that meets my needs, and am happy to pay that price to get it.

"Complete scam"

Pros

works for a few minutes before requiring payment

Cons

I started with the freeware. It worked great for a few minutes before it said I need to upgrade to the standard. I figured why not, it's working well. Paid the $20 to connect two computers. Few minutes later I'm getting a message saying I need to pay $50 to get the professional. I have two computers and two monitors. This software is a scam

"Perfect fit for my PC / Mac"

December 14, 2015  |  By rblalock

2015-12-14 05:46:25  |  By rblalock

 |  Version: ShareMouse 3.0.30

Pros

- Works as advertised
- "it just works" experience, all I did was install it on both and didn't have to do anything else
- The drag / drop files from one machine to the other is kinda magical the first time you do it.
- The keyboard / mouse and copy/paste from one set of devices on both machines make it a great experience too. Just had to remap some keys for when I jump over to my mac and it was perfect

Cons

When you buy a registered copy, it is locked for that specific computer. So if you need to switch computers (e.g. you sell a computer, etc), and forget to deactivate it, you have to email them to reset it. That being said they're very responsive and will reissue a license fast. A recommendation for the author is to have a place users can log in and manage their licenses.

Summary

Absolutely awesome, if you have multiple machines and need to use both, this is the app for you.

"This software rocks!"

December 07, 2015  |  By Vlad Vulic

2015-12-07 07:11:49  |  By Vlad Vulic

 |  Version: ShareMouse 2.0.56

Pros

Simple to setup and use
Ability to order the screens
Optional feature that prevents switching in full-screen program windows
Optional feature that prevents switching in monitor corners
Drag and Drop available
Clipboard sync
Good and fast support

Cons

Really can't think of any

Summary

Their software just rocks! I'm using couple of computers with 5 monitors (for now lol) for work mostly, and having one mouse and keyboard to do the job across both computers with all of the monitors makes my life a LOT easier. All thanks to these guys! Also, they are very quick in direct email replies.

"Superb! Simply Superb!"

October 28, 2015  |  By NotSunkYet

 |  Version: ShareMouse 2.0.56

Pros

Installs in less than a minute. No headaches, no problems. Works instantly with both mouse and keyboard. When switching from one PC to the other there is no delay in function. Inactive monitor is dimmed and I wanted to make it less so and found the adjustment easily in the settings. They thought of everything. I no longer need two keyboards and mice on my desk. I haven't been this excited about a computer program since LanTastic back in the 90's. Awesome!!!

Cons

The only con, and I don't think it's a con at all, is that when the mouse gets at the exact edge of the screen, as when aiming for the scroll bar, it will jump to the other computer. This is not a flaw, it is simply that I'll have to be precise when aiming for the scroll bar on the right side of the screen on the "A" monitor.

"Awesome Product! Share between Mac and PC easily"

September 17, 2015  |  By CardMagik

2015-09-17 10:14:31  |  By CardMagik

 |  Version: ShareMouse 2.0.56

Pros

This review is for the V3 Beta. I have a Mac and a PC and needed to watch a tutorial on the PC while programming in XCode on the Mac and my KVM (keyboard-video-mouse) device required me to take my hands off the mouse, press a button, and then wait about 2 seconds for the hardware to work. I tried this product and found that the mouse and keyboard switched so easily and obviously (big arrow on screen) as I crossed the edges. I could set up the monitors in the software to be as they were physically. I didn't like it working as I approached the edge (which is what the CNET above review said) but I was able to add the Shift key to allow the switch and can approach the edges without any problems.
It is a very fast switcher just like a PC with 2 monitors. I didn't like the monitors dimming which is the default, but that was easily override-able. I haven't tried the file transfer, but am really excited about that. Easily installed too!

Cons

I have not found any

Summary

The only thing that wasn't clear was how the hardware should be set up. It's obvious in retrospect, but I did start with a KVM. The keyboard and mouse just need to be connected to ONE machine once the software is installed. Pick the machine where it's most convenient either due to cabling or if using dongles, where the signal reaches best.

The software has to be set up on each machine (only the pro version allows more than 2 machines, but the standard version was sufficient for me). This means you need a mouse and keyboard for both machines to install (duh for me!) or have to have a KVM to switch until the software is working.

The one year maintenance price costs less than a KVM which in my case the V part was useless since I have an iMac and a separate monitor for my PC.

There is a free version that does the basics and I first tried it out and found that it was superbly written and professional software and was great value for the price.

"a Perfect and Simple Utility"

September 15, 2015  |  By Arman Taherian

2015-09-15 15:02:54  |  By Arman Taherian

 |  Version: ShareMouse 2.0.56

Pros

This software is amazing, do you want why? because it's really simple, fast, light and useful. I tried some of related softwares but these softwares have a lot of configuration and messy options, and in the many case they don't worked perfectly, but ShareMouse is really perfect, believe me.

Cons

If you haven't pro version, and if you have more than two monitor, the software limitation is not good you must buy pro version.

Summary

At overall I think ShareMouse is a perfect and useful software, even if you haven't need to it, you can test free version and I promise you like it.

"Quick, Easy, Works Flawlessly"

June 28, 2015

2015-06-28 06:15:00

 |  Version: ShareMouse 2.0.56

Pros

Quick download; Easy to set up; I went from install to live within 2 minutes! I'm not seeing any lag between systems; it's like it's one big system. Keyboard, Mouse sharing as well as dragging and dropping files between systems.

Saved myself quite a bit of money, don't need to invest in a KVM now!

Cons

None so far.

Summary

I highly, highly recommend this. Personally I was very skeptical, but figured I'd give it a try. It's working so well now I've added to my login items

"Nearly perfect utility"

May 28, 2015  |  By bjasper2006

2015-05-28 06:50:11  |  By bjasper2006

 |  Version: ShareMouse 2.0.56

Pros

Installs very easily and starts working immediately. Mouse and keyboard can be shared in both directions without a configuration change. This was a nice surprise. The app does not use measurable CPU or memory. ShareMouse also has a portable version.

Cons

None found. Very well implemented product.

Summary

I switched to ShareMouse from Synergy, which started having problems with CPU utilization (15-25%) and screen freezing. It was also difficult to configure and worked in one direction only (had to declare one PC as the client and one as the service). ShareMouse "just works" effortlessly and appears to be a solid application. I'm not sure why the Editor's rating is so low. It is a 5-start application.
