CNET Editors' review
Schedule Split Shifts for 25 Employees is a set of Excel spreadsheets that allow users to create schedules for up to 25 employees in up to two locations. Although the program isn't bad for what it is, users should be aware that it is really just an Excel file, not a separate application.
The program's functions are separated into different spreadsheets within an Excel workbook. Users enter employee information, including their position (manager, cook, or waiter), and any age-based restrictions on how many hours they can work, and availability. Users then create schedules, inputting how many workers they need of each type for each shift. Scheduling employees is as easy as selecting a name from the drop-down menu, which will only show employees of the correct type that are available for the shift in question. Because the bulk of the program's functions require users to simply enter information into the spreadsheet, it is fairly intuitive and easy to use, although some pages were a bit cluttered-looking. The program includes a Help file that does a good job of explaining its functions. Overall, although the program is not fancy, it does contain helpful, easy-to-use-features, and is an effective way to create schedules that include split shifts.
The trial version of the program restricts the dates users can choose for scheduling. The program comes as a ZIP file and runs after extraction with no need for installation. We recommend this program to all users.
Publisher's Description
From Shift Schedules:
The Split-25 Excel spreadsheet creates schedules where each employee can be assigned to 1 or 2 categories (manager, cook, waiter), 1 or 2 locations (Store A, Store B) and 1 or 2 times (10:30 AM - 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM) each day for up to a month. Shift assignments are made from drop-down menus of qualified employees. The spreadsheet can enforce age-related work rules and also keep track of your payroll budget based on employee wages and scheduled hours. It creates various schedules and calendars as well as a vCalendar file to transfer schedules to your PDA, Smart Phone and Outlook Calendar for handy reference. The spreadsheet is available in sizes for 25, 50, 100 and 150 employees. Microsoft Excel or compatible spreadsheet program is required.
