Version: ScanDBX for Outlook Express 2.20
"This software is a ripoff! READ the license agreement carefully before buying."
Cons: I purchased this softare some time ago and used it once. I recenlty found out, while trying to activate the software again after restoring my computer that I no longer had the right to use the software.
It seems that once you purchase the software for nearly $40.00 that your license period is ONE (1) year, during which time you may only install it twice. For those of us who restore our computers from time to time, this is definitely a problem.
In a nutshell, I purchased software that I can no longer use because the company that sells it seems to be even greedier than certain very large software publishers.
I will never purchase this software again, and urge those in the market for this type of software to seek similar software from alternate sources.

Version: ScanDBX for Outlook Express 2.20
Pros: I looked high and low for something to fix the errors I had with my Outlook Express, and this fixed it in less than 5 minutes. I wish I had found this 48 hours earlier, it would have been a tremendous help.

Version: ScanDBX for Outlook Express 2.20
Pros: None that I found yet
Cons: I used an earlier version of this program and it erased ALL of the emails in my inbox. I used the built in "restore" feature and Scandbx froze with a message to contact the administrator. FORTUNATELY, I backed up the entire outlook express file folder on my own beforehand. rogram. So I'm back to square one. Now it's possible that this new version has these multiple bugs fixed. If so, I apologize for the negative review. But I'm juest trying to save someone the heartbreak of losing years of precious emails like I almost did. So try out the trial version but BACKUP YOUR ENTIRE OUTLOOK EXPRESS FOLDER found in documents and settings.
From their website comes this quote: "In case you are wondering why we don't allow you to demo the full version of the product (no restrictions) and allow you to repair Outlook Express without purchasing the product? Simple, after ScanDBX fixes things, or we help you get your email working, there is not much of an incentive to purchase the product...right?
Why don't you let us recover a few messages for free?
Yes, one of our competitors allows you repair ten email messages to prove their software works. Unfortunately, a lot of the time, the problems with Outlook Express are a lot more complicated than just recovering a few messages. Consequently, we decided to show you how many messages could be recovered instead.
If you compare our products to our competitors in real-world scenarios, you will find that ScanDBX is a vastly superior product at a very reasonable price. Product development and support are very expensive activities. No one can provide an excellent product and support for free and stay in business for very long." end quote from Scandbx website.
Hmm. I beg to differ. If their product is as good as they say it is, recovering 3 or 4 emails demonstrates the program DOES recover lost emails. I've yet to be sure that it does.

Version: ScanDBX for Outlook Express 2.20
"Excellent product, Great Price, Easy to Use, Comprehensive Repair"
Pros: Simple interface fixes most Outlook Express problems by clicking the "Fix it" button. Repairs corrupted DBX files, finds problems with communications/credentials, and more. Has an advanced mode to really drill down into difficult OE problems. Company is located in the USA.
Cons: Does not work on Mac version of Outlook Express. Cannot fix deleted/erased DBX files caused by compaction, but hey, the files are all zeros, so no program can fix it.

Version: ScanDBX for Outlook Express 2.20
"Product did not work and could damage hard drive."
Pros: Appeared to be easy to use.
Cons: Problem occurred with Dell Latitude D800 with 40 gB hard drive and Outlook Express (OE). For an unknown reason, OE had hundreds of duplicate messages in the Sent folder. This caused an error message indicating that messages (mainly those with attachments) could not be sent. However, OE kept trying to send them, and was actually successful each time it tried, and recipients were receiving multiple duplicate e-mails. ScanDBX was downloaded and executed to try to fix the problem. ScanDBX ran for over five hours and showed only 18% complete. The hard drive ran continuously the whole time. There was actual hard drive activity the whole time. ScanDBX never completed its task. I terminated the program before serious damage was done to the hard drive. I then cleaned up the duplicate messages myself, and OE works fine now. Unless the manufacturers of ScanDBX quickly investigate and fix their product, I suspect they will have legal problems because of the hard drives that are damaged by the product, not to mention its failure to work as advertised.
