CNET Editors' review
We see a lot of online streaming-TV viewers, and a lot of them are more or less the same. Satellite TV Media Player is another solid entry in this category; there's not much about it that sets it apart from the competition, but it's a perfectly serviceable program.
The player's interface is attractive and intuitive, with buttons for TV, radio, movies, and video. The program lists the available content down the side of the screen alphabetically, and users can filter it by country, genre, and language. There are plenty of streams of content from actual television channels, but the majority of the content is online-only. As is always the case with programs of this kind, the quality of the content varies greatly. Hulu this is not; there are some very high-quality movies, for example, but you're also likely to see movies in English with Asian-language subtitles across the bottom. Still, there's a huge variety of content, and, unlike many of these TV viewers, most of the Satellite TV Media Player's channels actually work. We did experience a few channels that wouldn't load and seemed to cause the whole application to freeze, which was a concern, but for the most part the program worked well and was easy to use. The program's built-in Help file is brief but adequate.
Satellite TV Media Player has a one-day trial period. The program installs a desktop icon without asking and leaves a folder behind upon removal. We recommend this program to all users.
Publisher's Description
From Satellite-TV-Player:
Amazing PC TV Player offering 3.000+ TV channels, 2.000+ Movies on Demand and 1.000+ Radio stations. Watch TV from all over the world (150 countries, 32 languages) and watch full length movies with online streaming technology (no download required). This is the only PC TV Player with daily updates. The channel list changes daily as channels and movies are maintained by a dedicated team of Content Managers who constantly review and add content when available. Satellite TV Player requires no antennas, TV cards, nor any hardware. All you need is a PC with internet connection. The new Satellite-TV-Player.com program is reliable, rich of content, fast, user friendly. The software is surprisingly reliable: nearly 95% of channels do actually work (other TV to PC software rate is around 60-70%). The channel buffering time is generally 3 to 8 seconds depending on the internet connection and the broadcaster's technology. Audio and video streams are not affected by any particular problem. The image definition is also excellent considering this is TV-over-IP technology. But what really makes the difference between Satellite-TV-Player.com and its main competitors is the channel offering itself. Just by giving a quick look at the channel list you can understand the value of this product. The new Satellite-TV-Player.com software comes with the largest premium channel pack ever seen in the internet with big names like CNN, ESPN, CBS, Discovery Channel, Al Jazeera, MTV, National Geographic, BBC, Eurosport, Euronews, France 24, DW TV and many other broadcasts from all over the world in more than 32 languages. In details, Satellite TV Player comes with: new channels filter, favorite folder, favorite channels management tool, full screen mode, end user guide, live updates. The daily updates can be downloaded anytime (takes 5-10 seconds). Windows Media Player 11 is required for optimal performance.
What's new in this version: Version 4.5 adds more channels with new tv streaming technology.

"Worst than many free TV player"
Version: Satellite TV Media Player 4.5
Pros
I don't see anything good, since I've paid $49 for it.
Cons
1) Too many channels don't work or you have to go to their website.
2) The picture is as bad as those from an old bad VCRSummary
The ironic aspect of this bad paying software, it is much worst than a free one line TV player like Readon TV... I am using only Readon TV from now on. Very angry for having paid for Satellite TV Media Player whose look and feel is obviously as oudated as a Russian Lada car.

"Powered by TVU Networks"
Version: Satellite TV Media Player 4.5
Pros
Started using this and all looked fine, plenty of channel choices. Most everything is here.
Cons
Noticed the "Powered by TVU" button in the corner of this program. I've been using TVU for years (it's free) While there seem to more choices here and better organized, not enough to pay this kind of coin for.
Summary
There are a number of other programs doing similar feeds. Only "buy" this if you feel the slicker presentation is worth the money.

"FINALLY A DECENT TV PLAYER"
Version: Satellite TV Media Player 4.5
Pros
lots of big channels (ESPN, etc.), channels and movies stream is reliable. streams are constantly updated (I get daily updates for free). excellent customer support. the program is user friendly. free trial.
Cons
you pay for unlimited membership.. if you dont wanna pay, go for other free tv players (there's plenty of them around) but, honestly, you cannot compare..

"Excellent TV player, it is the best I have seen so far."
Version: Satellite TV Media Player 4.5
Pros
I like the wide range of tv channels and movies available, the image quality is really good, I can watch all my favorite tv channels on my PC and also on my much larger television. This product is worth the little money I spent for it.
Cons
The player could be further improved with a more detailed description for each channel. In addition, full movies are not classified according to their genre, they are displayed in alphabetical order all together and they are more than 2,000......
Summary
I am a fan of Satellite TV Player 4.5 also because I often contact their Customer Support people (Miss Megan in particular) to ask for a particular channel, movie or radio station and they are really very friendly to me, they always manage to meet my wishes.

"Not what is promised. Not live TV in most cases. SCAM?"
Version: Satellite TV Media Player 4.5
Pros
The interface looks promising. Looks professional (but isn't).
Cons
Most of the listings are either NOT live TV (at best) or incorrect (at worst). Recordings are in correct time to FOOL YOU into thinking they are live.
Summary
Looks to be a scam to me. Glad I didn't pay for it. Most of the listings are either NOT live TV (at best) or incorrect (at worst). For example, History channel is something from another language, not historical. Canadian news is merely recordings from either Halloween 09 or September 11, 09. Recordings are in the correct time to fool you into thinking they are live. On news channels the reports are form the Summer (I'm writing this review in December). I cannot get any of the BBC listings to work correctly. Most of the local listings are for weather broadcasts from the areas, no other programming. Any actual live programming from overseas (in languages other than English) had ads running across the bottom. I don't think the program is worth $1.75 myself. After checking online for other reviews on this and other similar programs, it appears that they are all scams. Beware.

"Much better than the last"
Version: Satellite TV Media Player 4.5
Pros
When I first used this product, I was only so-so impressed. This 4.5 version is much better.
Cons
When activated, it changes my monitor setting. I have an Acer notebook and port the video to my TV, good video color; can't read channel selections. Had to reboot cable modem when I close the program. Need to do more investigation.
Summary
Much better product. A few twiks here and there and it's bye-bye cable company.
