Very playable, and a good sizable version for a trial size. I liked the comparative simplicity of A of E though. Actually A of E would get a 4 and this a 4-..
Have to change my vote on R of N after playing the trial version a few times it is a big improvement on Age of Empires. The A of E freebie is much more cut down and limited. Random means the same scenerio. R of N really gives you a full game feel with different variations,. Deserves at least 4.5 stars.

Few games give you as big variety of units, techs and OMG not to menton the number of wonders are you kidding me?? this game is one of the best, if not the best rts out there right now

It appears to be attempting to be between Civilization and C&C and not only does it fail on both accounts, to fails to be anything period. A backward step in my view and not worth it's pricetag at all.
