RingCentral is a phone call management service can make small businesses look and function like larger ones with some pretty neat telephonic tomfoolery. The service has been around since early 2004, and has since introduced a slew of VoIP plans called DigitalLine that give users the option to use VoIP instead of, or on top of their existing landlines.

So what can you do with RingCentral? Small business owners will love it, since you can set up a ridiculously extensive set of rules to handle incoming calls, or reroute them on the fly with a virtual phone call manager called SoftPhone. The idea is to take a single or multiline setup and spread it out intelligently, while putting all the options online for you to manage and tweak while away from your office. You can set up calls to be routed to different phones or line extensions, and there are also handy business-centric settings to tweak the response people get when they call at off-business hours.

The VoIP implementation is fairly straightforward. All incoming calls can be set to be received via VoIP, letting you receive and manage phone calls while away from your landline. You can also get various minute packages to use VoIP to make outgoing calls, including an all-you-can-eat plan of outgoing VoIP for about $25 per month. In contrast to consumer VoIP services like Vonage, Skype, or Comcast's DigitalVoice, RingCentral isn't aiming at cheap outgoing long distance providers, as much as the multiline business crowd who's looking for a way to handle several lines without the hardware or staffing.

"Poorly managed / Poor sales support / Does NOT work!"

September 13, 2013  |  By QueenOfTheLab

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

There are no pro's to this disaster

Cons

* Sales: condescending/oil.slick sales people who actually think they know more about telecommunications than a Electical Engineer with 20 years in telecommunications ("There is NO way that you know anywhere close to what I know!"...says Ringcentral Sales)
---------------
* Setup: 27 calls to support in order to get all 4 test extensions to work (4 POTS lines)
---------------
* Call routing: Test calls getting "number not in service" or dropped (one 2 minute test call an hour...not exactly overloading the service)
---------------
* MS Outlook...Dropbox integration: one test fax a day sent to each line (4) but none arrived for the first two weeks

Summary

This company is obviously owned/operated by people that really think they can fake it long enough to make some money
---------------
Highly recommend walking away from this "company"

If you don't heed this, you accept the results (God be with you and your employees!)

"Used to be excellent but not I can't get tech support"

August 30, 2013  |  By CareyVandenberg

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

The interface of the software and the service has worked very well for several years. But now....

Cons

I used to be able to call tech support and get my problem solved quickly. Now you phone the number and it says to create a ticket. OK, makes sense but.....
You search their website to try to create a ticket and when you do find the one button it says to click it brings you to a page where there is no where to create a support ticket.
There is no chat either. I'm typing this because I'm frustrated with a very surprised that a service that has been this good for me so far for over 5 years now has gone so far down hill.

Summary

Look elsewhere for an email fax service. They were highly rated last year but those old CNET and User reviews are not up to date with current experiences with RingCentral.

"DO NOT SIGNUP for RingCentral - JIVE.COM is better"

August 28, 2013  |  By techie1234

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

good concept and some neat features like business SMS through your office phones, but...

Cons

customer service stinks especially if you try to cancel

Summary

if you decide not to continue service it is a MAJOR hassle to cancel service - first they say they cannot cancel until all phones are received back by them, then they'll say actually you only returned some of the phones, then they'll say they cannot refund the taxes, then they'll say because it took longer than the 30 days to get the phones back they cannot honor the 30 days free trial - this was all sorted out after many hours on the phone with them but what a MAJOR hassle - I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND - we ended up going with Jive.com (excellent so far - especially how easy Jive is to graphically program call flow)

"Bad Customer Service, Dropped Calls, Poor Call Quality"

May 24, 2013  |  By ElizabethHawaii

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Concept is great when/if it works.

Cons

Customer Service
Call quality
Dropped Calls

Summary

We have been using RC for just under a year. We have 12 physical phones. I would NOT recommend RC for a small business. Their customer service takes Incredibly long to get through to a person for even a simple billing question. Average customer service call with them has been between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours when we have been trying to add in an analog line, or having issues with dropped calls. Dropped calls have been an on going issue since starting with them. Even when making a call at midnight, when neither call volume nor internet volume is high, I had a call drop. I had one of our employees track how many dropped calls she was having, and it averaged about 10 per week (approximately 15-20% of her calls). We have also had issues with transferring calls within our building. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Calling them takes so long, and much of the time with the sporadic issues, they can't figure out the problem, it isn't worth calling them. We have done all their suggestions including increasing our internet band with and dedicating bandwidth to the phones. This did not fix the problems they were suppose to. It seems like their issues are with the way their system actually handles the calls. I'm writing this review while I have been on hold (31 minutes so far and haven't gotten to speak to a real person yet!) to find out why this mysterious $379 charge started showing up on our bill for "20,000 minute toll free bundle" that we have never heard of nor did we sign up for. We are in the process of switching to a different phone system. It is really interesting how may good reviews they have gotten on some of these websites, because we have had almost a year of constant issues of one kind or another. I'm going to keep writing reviews until they decide to pick up the phone for this billing issue. Hopefully people will keep looking to find the real list of issues with RC. This was a new business last year, and they have definitely lost us money and leads due to the issues we've had with dropped calls, poor quality calls and not being able to transfer.

"Would NEVER recommend"

July 27, 2012  |  By Jennaaaay

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Cheap
Friendly
Somewhat user friendly

Cons

Off-shore technical/billing help with people that don't speak English very well (they are friendly though!)
Hold times are RIDICULOUS!
Dropped Calls
Bad reception

Summary

I would never go with this company. We have had a really hard time getting someone on the phone to help with technical issues, and then when we finally gave up to go somewhere else, they took over 45 minutes to "cancel" the numbers.

"Great service and support aggressively expanding!"

July 20, 2012  |  By Phnxbmb

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Customer service is very persistent they want to keep their customers!
Online and mobile access is very similar and easy to use.

Cons

They do not register with 411 whether or not you ask for it. But customer support did the research and provided me all the information to do it myself.

Summary

Wish they were a cellphone carrier cause the customer support is way better than any mobile network. Pricing could be better but for the tools and programming they handle themselves i am very pleased. The RingMe feature is used on my company's website and is very convenient. coolorsolutions.com

"A can and string would work better."

June 04, 2012  |  By TechGnome

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

There is a website to log in

Cons

can't understand support most times, phones reboot while on call and setting change, if you call customer support good luck getting off the phone before an hour passes, most support people are obviously using a flip chart, transfering takes forever, extension disappear, calls drop, calls go robotic.

Summary

I have all cisco gear and a CCIE that configured my network equipment so there is no problem with priorities. Level 3 has no clue what to do to make it better they just keep making it worse. I have never once in months been able to use the phone system the way we want to use it. My customer service department just was deleted by them losing 200+ voice mails which is going to cripple my company. I have an asterisk phone system on the way now but this may be the last issue I have in this office due to those voice mails being deleted by these idiots, there is gold in those messages. I lost $10's of thousands just now I can almost guarantee I should have setup an enterprise grade system this garbage has cost me more than the asterisks plus I just lost who knows how much money. I hate ring central they are spawned from the devil.

"RC Mobile is a great product and a great value"

March 22, 2012  |  By RSWASH

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

A very reasonable cost - my phone bill went from $95+ a month to $23. I was able to keep my phone # and my fax #.
I don't answer the phone because we don't have any but get an instant text and email telling that I got a call and the email includes the voice message. Which allows me to screen out sales calls and respond immediately to customers. Also when a call comes in it rings on my computer and I have the option of answering it on my computer using VOIP or I also have the option of monitoring the voice mail as they leave it.
I am out of the office a lot and use their iPhone app quite a bit. If I have the Iphone app running I also get an alert that a call is coming in. I can return calls from my Iphone using WIFI VOIP and the company phone # will show up on their caller ID.
One of my concerns with dropping the land line was losing the fax machine, but they make it easy to send and receive faxes.

Cons

The only real con that I have experienced is the quality of the VOIP calls hasn't been consistently good and so I don't use it very much. It might have improved but it is just as easy to use my cell phone to return calls.

Summary

Overall, I am very pleased with the quality and value of the service. I figure I am saving around $900 a year using this service.

Updated on Mar 22, 2012

One thing I forgot to mention is that they have great customer service as well. They patiently and expertly walked me through getting things set up initially.
