Revenant demo

Publisher's Description

From Eidos:

Revenant is a dark fantasy role-playing and adventure game that will immerse you in a visually stunning and changing environment. Interact with more than 40 characters as you choose from a variety of weapons, spells, armor, and magical items and battle hand to hand in the 3D fighting tradition. Revenant combines the realism of an adventure game with the exploration, character development, and gaming longevity of an RPG.

The demo starts out with the character Locke in the tiny village of Misthaven. As Locke, you must survive long enough to find your way through the caves of Ahkuilon. You start off with a couple different suits of armor, and several weapons are also made available to you so that you can try different tactics on the island's creatures. You have access to a few spells, which will allow you to vanquish your foes more easily--but each one will cost you mana. To replenish your mana, you need to find mana potions somewhere on the island. The first part of your quest is to locate the entrance to the caves, then you can proceed through the caves, spelunking your way past skeletons, cinerate priests, and Earth golems. Only a true warrior of Ahkuilon can survive the rigors of the intense combats in this demo.

This latest update has a few bug fixes from the original demo.

    "Only the demo is bad"

    April 25, 2003  |

    Version: Revenant demo

    Summary

I did not like the demo because you can not save your progress in any way. It is also tough to progress quickly through the game because it is hard to heal yourself and find new equipment.

    "Beautiful but Brainless"

    December 18, 2002  |

    Version: Revenant demo

    Summary

Diablo is a great and influential game whose core concept was to combine an action game with a role-playing game. The key to its success is that it maintains a successful balance between physical and mental activity -- when you get tired of one, there's plenty of the other to engage you.

Revenant's core concept is to combine Diablo with an arcade-style martial arts fight game. It's not a bad idea, but it falls short in execution because the game is entirely weighted on the physical side with almost no mental activity at all. It's not really a Diablo-type game at all -- it's just an arcade-style fighting game with a Diablo-like background. If you're a Diablo fan, the continual one-on-one fighting will get boring after a while and you'll be waiting for the other activities to kick in (battle strategy, quests, collecting items, balancing inventory and stats), but they never do.

That said, the game is lovingly designed, gorgeous to look at and has great little touches like Jerry Garcia as the potion seller. There's enough here to make the demo well worth downloading, but whether you'll want to buy and play the full game or not just depends. If you liked Diablo, you'll find Revenant lacking in content and ultimately, disappointing. On the other hand, if you like arcade-style fighting games and didn't think Diablo had enough action, you'll love Revenant.

    Version: Revenant demo

    Summary

I have diablo 2 and when I just played this demo I went out and bought this game right away! It also has an excellent story line to go with the other great features! Diablo 2 isn't half as good as this game!

    "Good: More action-fighting than RPG"

    March 20, 2002  |

    Version: Revenant demo

    Summary

Good game. Controls are pretty good, graphics and sound - mind-blowing. Not so much story here, but lots of action. I would even consider getting the full version.

    "Great game, good graphics.."

    October 28, 2001  |

    Version: Revenant demo

    Summary

found some problems with loose controlling of the character plus getting stuck in a few areas.. the moves rock and the graphics kick arse.. way better than Diablo IMHO.. also saw a bug with the baddies.. sometimes after death they often stood there and wouldn't fight back when they were supoosed to be dead.. they wouldnt spawn again either.. dialogue with PC to NPC was also a bit drawn out.. could be a bit tighter and more fluent too.. anyhow, I want it. The fighting/graphics and spell use is phenomenal.

    "This game rocks!"

    August 31, 2001  |

    Version: Revenant demo

    Summary

There are spells that you put together using elemental talismans, not to mention weapons and armor, all on a 3D model that changes with every new piece of armor that you put on.
