This power-packed application tweaks your Registry to optimize computer performance, but novices sholdn't expect much hand-holding. RegToy has a pretty nested-button-and-tab interface, which may put off some because it doesn't follow XP standards. Options are primarily of the enable/disable variety, and most changes take effect immediately.

Though the tweak options are carefully labeled, users must know the consequences of altering them, as the few onscreen notes don't provide adequate assistance. You can restore the Registry settings to the Windows default, but that's an emergency final resort, as it will undo many changes made by you and some other programs. RegToy also includes a poorly explained feature for saving and loading settings. Other features include nifty utilities such as a file renamer, a file shredder, a start-up manager, an uninstall manager, and a disk cleaner for removing unnecessary files.

You also get a Registry cleaner for removing invalid Registry entries. It's very rare to find such a powerful and free tweaking application. Intermediate to advanced users will quickly make RegToy an integral part of their toolboxes.

took an hour to download only to discover that it needs a .net version that I did not have. Who knows how much more time that would have required? Faster to download something else instead.

Easy access to many configuration options (many you may never have known were available in windows). GREAT tweaking program.
Cons
As mentioned by other reviewers, not enough explanations as to effect of options, BUT thankfully they include a "return to windpws default settings" selection.

Nice Features combined into categories and the ability to check mark some options which take effective right away.

You have to be very careful, some options are effective by checkmarks, some you have to apply but the program does not clearly tell you how to apply them. It defaults to Windows XP, if you don't remember to change this to your OS,
Summary
You would be applaying changes based on different OS lines of code. It defaults to Windows XP, but when first load it does not go directly to the windows were you select the OS making it confusing. Most users will assumen that it recognize your OS automatically which it does not. It added a GO TO Line to my Right Click Context Menu which to me has no usefulness, and still can't find were to turn it off. If anyone knows let me know.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM WITH VISTA! DOING SO MAY FRY YOUR OS!

Provided a number of opportunies to tweak the registry. The flyover information was very helpful.3

Some of the utilities were not labeled. There are so many menus, it requires some searching to find the area yiou want. After the install, it worth the time to go screen by screen to see what is available and where things are located.
Summary
I ran RegToy on both a desktop with XP SP3 and a Laptop with Vista SP1. There were no issues with the XP machine. However the Vista machine had issues with the display of information. Some of the information windows overlapped and in some cases only partial text was displayed. Overall, it worked well.
