  Did Make coloring black and white photos look much better and is cheaper thatn AKVIS

  Cons

  It tends to crash and it doesn't do black colors in hair very well, you would have to save it then do the hair manually in photoshop or paintshop.

  Summary

  If you don't want to pay the money for AKVIS this will do if you are willing to save it often because of the crashes and do the hair in another program. However I wouldn't recommend it, you be better off buying AKVIS

  Turns out great pics once the program is learned.

  Cons

  NO customer service. DON'T buy it. Crashes after about a dozen pics are generated. Crashes even in the middle of while doing a pic. I have to constantly uninstall it b/c the color palette bar doesn't show up on the side even tho it's marked.

  Summary

  If you have the patience to try this program, do it. Even more patience to get the pics to look perfect. If the program doesn't crash. Good to demo...not to buy.

  Summary

  I use Recolored to do the job then add finishing touches using my Ulead Photo Impact. You can't tell the difference from a real colored photo. Experimentation and patience are the keys.

  Is a near exact copy of Akvis Coloriage, minus a *lot* of its features. I believe Akvis may find this product very "interesting."

  Pros

  Beta versions are free and can still be obtained. 0.7.1 beta is the last free version, get it while download.com has it. <p>It works quite well in recoloring Black and White photographs. <p>Its got a great XP-style interface. <p>The program is quite easy to pickup and use. <p>White color is the "negating" color, meaning the original color from the photo is kept.

  Final version 1.0 and later versions are not free. 21 day trial...they are $50 for a license thereafter. $50?! <p>Considering that the tutorial suggests you define the color borders as close as possible to the actual border on the picture, you had better have a steady hand with your mouse. I found it quite hard to achieve great borders using a laptop touchpad and a USB wireless optical mouse (travel size for laptops). <p>Every border (and i mean EVERY border) has to be defined on both ends. So if you have a tree meeting the ground you have to define the tree side brown, and the grass side green. If you fail to define a border the color will bleed. <p>Recolorization process will run slow on older machines. <p>If the areas to define are too small you have to zoom in and use a smaller brush size to make sure you actually have only the borders defined instead of making it seem like you are coloring the whole area with the color manually. Not doing this will produce a high-color-saturation effect on the output photo.

  To begin, besides picking already made colors for you, it's nothing any other app couldn't accomplish. I downloaded it and installed fine, but then the trouble began...no way to choose areas to color. Sure, there are masks, if you color the whole picture. Still, it's basically a free hand paint program. Now the freeze ups. My system runs Google earth without a hitch, also gaming hardly hits it but this little paint program slowed me to a halt 3 times and finally had to do a reboot. I understand that may vary on different systems but as mentioned, my system is pretty stable and fast and run XP Pro. Any way, I uninstalled this little thorn in my side and my pc is back to running speed and I can color pictures in other ways. This program has what seems less than MS paint, yes it's true. At least in paint you can select an area to color. I don't like slamming free progs but this one seems it's going to be charging after the beta run from how it sounds, I just don't want to be there when it does. The idea is good, but someone left out all the tools and unless there is a selection area fill, selection cut and paste, and about a hundred more tools, i see no reason to use this non-thought through software. However, it's free, try it , everyone has their own opinion, this is simply mine.
