"Time Saving Tool"

February 27, 2012  |  By -Rufus-

 |  Version: RazorSQL 5.6.3

Pros

This tool has so many features that will save you time, you'll be hooked very quickly. My boss suggested I check it out. Did. Trial finally expired. I hounding him incessantly until I ended up with a registration code. Now I'm a happy (and hooked) camper.

Cons

None that I can think of.

"Best DB Query and Analysis Tool Hands Down"

July 07, 2011  |  By rickyisthemann84

 |  Version: RazorSQL 5.5.2

Pros

-Connects to 33 different database types
-All Java for max portability
-Cheap

Cons

-None. Seriously.

Summary

I registered with CNET just to review this app. My company was recently purchased by a mammoth corporation -- we used all MSSQL, and now that we're being assimilated, I had to find another tool than SQL Management Studio (which sucks, by the way). I needed to connect to DB2, MySQL, MSSQL, Sybase and Oracle. First of all, I had trouble figuring out how to connect to an AS400, and since I was trying to keep my job and make the new guys think I knew what I was doing, I couldn't ask anyone. One of the guys sent me a corporate WinSQL license and told me it was the best thing since sliced bread, but it required iAccess drivers to connect to AS400 and I never got it working. I tried using it with Oracle and the interface was wonky and kept crashing. I started getting desperate and started Googling for other software when I stumbled on RazorSQL. I had tried the trial version of RazorSQL years ago when I needed to ETL some data from a Sybase Sql Anywhere server, and it was great then.

Anyhow, now I have one single application that connects to every DB I need, and can connect to many more. I generally prefer OpenSource software (not because I edit the source, but because I am cheap and the process to get software "approved" in a publicly traded company takes months) so I was reluctant to even give RazorSQL a whirl because I am so cheap. So I paid out of my own pocket and haven't regretted it a day. There's even cool stuff like a FTP/SFTP client, so vendor reporting and delivery can be done right in RazorSQL. The commandline options are helpful too -- In my batch report extracts from sqlcmd.exe, all I had to do was add another line to call RazorSQL and combine the output. Now I have proven myself invaluable because I am perhaps the only person in the organization that has knowledge of all of our various DB engines, and have even been able to create a data warehouse from all these sources, using only the tools available in RazorSQL.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If you are like me and were using MySQL Workbench, iAccess, Toad, and MSSQL to try to connect and manage several different DBs, than RazorSQL is a no brainer. It truly has been a reliable and professional development tool, and at the end of the day I feel like I robbed the guy only paying $70 dollars for it considering how friggin' expensive all other (even simple) enterprise class database tools are. I would recommend, and have recommended RazorSQL to everyone in my department. I love it!

FANBOY!!!!

"impressed"

September 13, 2006  |  By rricardo177

 |  Version: RazorSQL 3.5

Pros

I was particularly impressed with the language support for the programming editor. One example, it knows all of the built-in functions for PHP. When have you seen a database app with that kind of editor? And it has that kind of info for like 20 languages.

"A very versatile product"

July 30, 2006  |  By tpenn55

 |  Version: RazorSQL 3.01

Pros

This product has many features and all of them are implemented well. I use this product every day at work and use the mac os x version at home. This product is as good as the typical commercial products companies spend hundreds of dollars for. I highly recommend RazorSQL to anyone that either needs to create a database for themselves or to access any database.

"This is a top notch product"

July 02, 2006  |  By joereacher99

 |  Version: RazorSQL 3.01

Pros

This is a very nice, professional product. I am a consultant and my clients use databases like oracle, db2, etc. I use this product to query and browse all of them and it has all of the features I need. The built in database is a nice feature. I use it to create playground databases. Another cool thing is that the wizards all show you the sql they execute. I highly recommend this product.
