With so few features and an interface only a mother could love, this image-conversion program is hardly worth the 22 bills requested. QTam Bitmap to Icon helps you convert images into ICO files. This trial version lets you convert only three files in a batch, and only BMP format is allowed. Even if this were remedied in the paid version, the program doesn't offer you much else, as only 16- and 256-color formats are supported. Though you can select among three standard icon sizes, you can't create a custom size. You can, however, crop images or apply automasking. Yet the program doesn't allow you to select an output path for your converted files. All files are automatically stored in the program's main folder. The largest bugaboo for us is the program's many, many screens, which require you to break your finger clicking through each to start converting. All the options scattered among these screens could have fit comfortably into one or two--but the designer's approach just slows down the process. Better options are out there, and many are freeware. Though we'd love to support QTam, a lot of design work has yet to be done before it's a powerful program.Publisher's description
From QTam Computer :QTam Bitmap to Icon is a small program designed for creating icons. Simply resize your image to 32x32 or 48x48 pixels and then use this program to convert the BMP to ICO. No other runtime DLL is needed. The program has an autoconvert function and the ability to mask all valid BMPs in the directory to ICOs with one touch.
Version 3.1 fixed the black spot bug from the previous version. Version 3.5 supports a Multi-Resource Icon Format. Also, the Preset Answers option lets you work much faster than before.
CNET Editor's Note: In this unregistered version, you can't input GIFs or JPEGs, and you can convert only up to three files at a time.
