Publisher's description of QM Nooze

From Quantum Mechanic:

QM Nooze is a simple RDF/RSS newsfeed reader for Windows. It will run under Windows 9.x, NT, Me, 2000, and XP. This program will navigate to any Web site and translate the Resource Description Framework (RDF) Site Summary (RSS) into an easy-to-read menu that automatically updates every 10 minutes. Quantum Mechanic hosts an ever-growing database of popular newsfeeds that is available at the touch of a button. If you discover a great feed on your own, we encourage you to send it by clicking the Suggest Current Feed button. This is a freeware distribution and is available with no warranties explicit or implied--use it at your own risk. The current release is version 1.1, but future updates are planned. If you find this software useful, please consider making an anonymous contribution to the charity of your choice.

  • Version reviewed: QM Nooze 1.1
At first, QM Nooze's small purple window looks like a cool way to grab news stories quickly. With only four buttons, you can click to get a list of channels, find the headlines you want, then click to visit the news site via your default browser. Though the quick and dirty concept is great, the execution is less than stellar. The small interface is divided into two windows, with the top listing available news sites and the bottom offering a small summary of the story and the link. The summaries often have Web code mixed in, making them difficult to read. Some of the story links worked, while others brought us to a Page Not Found screen (even though a bit of research showed us the story still existed). Worse, you can't add your own feeds--the only option is to drop a link into a suggestion box to send it to the developers. QM Nooze has a great idea: Provide the news quickly using a small memory footprint without the need for extraneous tools. However, due to small glitches and the inability to add feeds, we recommend you wait for the next update.
