I feel like I really have to work if I want to win while using this software. I play in low-limit game in a Nevada "border town" and I was able to adjust the dynamics of the software in order to better simulate the games I play in. This games is a challlenge and I need the challenge to improve my game. I have iPoker, and yes, the graphics and sounds are nice, but it is a GAME easy to beat and master. Poker Academy is a training tool.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I've been a DD poker user for around 2 years. It's a great game and cheap but PA blows it away. DD is a "game" whereas PA is a serious tool for poker players. The PA AI is exceptional. Really it is. DD is predictable (yet still fun) but the PA bots really are in a class of their own. The GUI is exceptional. the analysis tools are fantastic. the BIG question, is it worth $129 compared to £30 for DD? If you are a semi serious to serious poker player then yes. (I won't even get into iPoker or any of the others, there's absolutely no comparison. The downsides of PA? Not many. Yes, it's expensive but most of us have lost $200 in a few hours online or at the casino so when you look at it like that it's not a great cost. It also doesn't have a great save game function. As far as I can see you can only save one game at a time. I could be wrong but even if I am it's not easy to find info in the manual on save games. It doesn't seem as if PA has a lot of users. The online aspect of PA is useless because it's difficult to find anyone to play against. DD 2 will incorporate an online function and because of the cost and the number of DD users that's where DD will have an advantage. PA is difficult. try and win the WSOP tournament, very very tough. If you're into a quick game that you can win easily then buy one of the others. If you want a real tool then buy PA. As an aside, I have to say that PA's marketing is pretty poor. It's not well known, they don't sell the USP's very well hence many people don't appreciate it's strengths. I will buy DD Poker 2 for online use but for everything else Poker Academy comes up trumps. Try the demo. If $129 is too much then go for the $30 version.

I don't know if shelling out the $100 makes the program any better, but this game pretty much sucks. The makers claim machine learning algorithms, stats modeling, neural networking and all that crap -- all I see are the EXACT SAME 10 or 11 hands being dealt. Maybe they should try and include a randomizer, too.

This is a game, and the best games of the year usually sell for under $60. I think this game would be overpriced at $50. $99.50 is an insult!
