Editors' review

PIXresizer provides a simple and fast set of tools for resizing and reformatting photos. The program provides a strong service and a usable format that someone with any skill set can operate.

We loved the single screen interface that was full of intuitive radio button controls. We never needed to look at the Help file because all the direction we needed was in front of our face. We were able to quickly select a button that shrank our image by a specific percentage or enter a specific set of dimensions for our picture. We were pleasantly surprised by the file type converter, which operated the same way. We chose between JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, or TIFF. The program's sparse features weren't that great, but were effective, offering tools for rotating and converting to grayscale. Our test photos resized themselves and changed file types in a flash and didn't lose anything from the original in the transfer. This was one of the fastest and simplest resizing tools we've ever operated.

PIXresizer is a freeware program. It comes as a compressed file.

    "Useful enough."

    January 23, 2014   |   By gumbygordo

    Version: PixResizer 2.0.6

    Pros

It does what it does. Very easy user interface. Fast. I like that the user interface is laid out in a series of logically oriented steps.

    Cons

The file selector shows all the files in a folder, even nonpicture files. You need to browse to your destination folder. It would be nice to have overwrite and save to original folder options.
I can't say I like the Cnet downloader. The decline button is greyed out even though it is active and you can click it to decline the add-on crapware that Cnet is trying to push.

    "Great, but be aware..."

    August 07, 2013   |   By NYC Girl

    Version: PixResizer 2.0.6

    Pros

Does what it says it will
    Easy to use
    Help info explains clearly

    Cons

<b>You CAN ask it to do too much>/b>: I scanned a very old photo in a 1200 dpi tiff, and it was 38 MB! When I tried to reduce it I got an error message: "Oh no! Saving (file name) failed. Try to save under another name..." Trying to save under another name was useless, so I think the issue is that it's simply too large to begin with. I'll go back and try and save the original in a lower dpi or jpg, and then I suspect it will work.

    Summary

For a free product I think it's excellent as long as you keep in mind its limitations.

BTW, reviewers who complain about bloatware simply didn't uncheck boxes along the install that opted out of the extras. Can't blame the product for trying to cross-market; blame the user.

    "Comes bundled with invasive crap"

    March 25, 2013   |   By GrumpyPenguin

    Version: PixResizer 2.0.6

    Pros

No idea, because I immediately uninstalled this program.

    Cons

I downloaded this from CNET, thinking it would be safe. Instead, I was asked 3 different times if I wanted to also install some other crap. I said no each time. Then during the actual install it tried to add a new toolbar. I had to choose "custom install" to avoid this and even then the defaults were hard to get around. When I thought I had it licked, I installed the program...only to find that some pathetic crap called "WamJam" had completely taken over every one of my browsers.

From there I had to completely uninstall "WamJam" even though I had never installed it in the first place. Then I had to reboot the comp. Once I had done that, I reopened my browser (Chrome) and the WamJam page was still there. I closed that actual page and re-opened Chrome and got back to Google...but ALL of my settings have been removed, all my open tabs disappeared and all of my history (including recently closed tabs) was gone, so I couldn't recover where I had been.

    Summary

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS PRODUCT. You will be annoyed beyond belief by the invasive crap that comes with it and very sorry you bothered. I am disgusted with this company and with CNET for having this on their site.

    "A little life-saver!"

    September 03, 2012   |   By francesholm

    Version: PIXresizer 2.0.5

    Pros

I love PIXresizer. It sits on my desktop and and is
so easy just to click on in a hurry without having to
open up any other complicated software. It's especialy
useful when I'm emailing photos that are too big, and
with PIXresizer it takes less than a minute to reduce
    the size.

    Cons

Hmmmmm..... can't think of any! If you added any more
features it would start turning into big-deal editing
    software and lose its agility.

    Summary

    It's just wonderful!
