  Apparently this breaks with every browser (Firefox) upgrade, all I wanted it for was to capture scrolling windows when I needed it to, and now it doesn't work no matter what I do, so I will have to find a browser-specific app to do that

  Pros

  For an all in one lightweight app it's actually really awesome... I just dumped a bunch of mini apps and replaced with just this one.

  none whatsoever. absolutely NO CONS Furthermore, there is ZERO malware from version 3.41 install. Mawarebytes found zero on manual scan and when installing. Read suggestion below in summary if your one of the unfortunate malware magnets.

  Summary

  Don't like repeating, but anything that's lightweight (can be made portable actually by zipping up the programs directory (personal pref are in ini file elsewhere). To all you people with issues. Go to the authors site, go to his "download" page and download the "home" version. It still downloads from cnet but it's the ONLY link he can guarantee the files not been tampered with. He explains it clearly. And that's another plus, it should be obvious it's an author that listens. Good app. And I'm not one that dumps mini and 1 purpose apps that I've been using forever. But that has changed.

• Free Alt to SnagIt / Malware "Conduit Search" Bundled

  ? Excellent basic screen capture program ? Simple to use ? Allows for Hot Key Assignment

  ? Not nearly as feature-rich as SnagIt (I use it daily) ? Comes bundled with "Conduit Search" and "V-Bates" While I'm not familiar with V-Bates, Conduit Search is a horrendous browser hijacker that is difficult to get rid of (I believe we had to completely uninstall IE & Firefox just to get rid of it).

  Summary

  If you choose to install the program click on the faded "Decline" buttons when prompted to install "Conduit Search" and "V-Bates" (Beware that this option is still available with PicPick v3.3.4, but could be removed with future versions of the program.). If you fail to do that, you'll have a devil of a time removing "Conduit Search" from your computer.

• CNET is losing my confidence

  Though CNET says their programs are virus-free. Malware bytes found 3 (or was it 4) PUP's installs with this program. CNET: drop this program from your offerings, or require PicPick to remove the PUPs programs from installing.

  Summary

  This program tried to install Softomate (a malware toolbar addin), InstallMonetizer (ad-ware, as far as I can tell), and SearchProtect (a browser homepage hijacker). I'll be looking to install from other sites, if CNET can't do a better job of protecting its users.

• Just had to stop using it

  Pros

  Such a feature rich program that was so simple and fuss-free to use for taking and annotating screenshots..

  Cons

  The program sometimes wouldn't open, with a message 'Failed to load resource file. Error 00001'. Then my only solution was to uninstall and reinstall it, but doing that last week, direct from the publisher's site, Avast Free detected a virus.

  Summary

  After a great deal of searching for something equivalent, I found iPhotoDraw, a free annotation program that also includes screen capture, although this is not mentioned in its features. Goodbye PicPick!

• Contains "monetizer" malware

  Being that the latest version contains the "monetizer" malware, that alone negates any pros this software might have.

  Cons

  The most recent version (as of 6/27/14) was detected by my security program to contain the "monetizer" malware as I was attempting to install it, so I aborted the install. So apparently I'm not going to be installing this latest version. And if whoever creates Picpick doesn't stop his monkey business, I won't be using his software anymore, period.

  If you buy the commercial version and for some reason you loose your disk and can't register after installing everything again and you get a VMPAL0007 error, you can forget to write to them asking for support: They do not answer. I'm just gonna buy a decent software from someone else specially someone that respect customers and offer a decent support.

• Unforgivable browser hijacking

  Pros

  I had it and used it occasionally, hoping to phase out my old Faststone Capture program that had gone all shaky of late.

  Cons

  I'll never know if the newer version works, because I realized as soon as I'd downloaded it that it had brought a browser hijacker along for the ride (absolutely no notification of this during the download process, either)

  Summary

  Don't use, unless you feel like uninstalling your browsers and wiping clean your saved user data therein.
