CNET Editors' review
If you do any kind of digital art or design, we can't think of a reason you wouldn't want to have PicPick as your sidekick. This handy set of tools can handle many small yet important design-related tasks without the hassle of opening a full-blown design program.
PicPick has an attractive, no-nonsense interface that lists all of its features up front. And what a list it is; PicPick's capabilities include a variety of screen capture options, a color picker, a color palette, a magnifier, a pixel ruler, a crosshair, a protractor, and a whiteboard. The program also comes with a basic image editor that can handle tasks such as cropping, resizing, and rotating, as well as a applying a handful of special effects. PicPick's features aren't especially unique, but the fact that they're all bundled together in such a sleek, easy-to-access package makes this program a must-have. We were especially fond of the whiteboard feature, which lets users draw, marker-style, on their existing desktop or on a blank canvas. The options for screen captures are also impressive; users can select full-screen captures, particular windows or regions, fixed regions, freehand areas, and even scrolling windows. The program comes with an online Help file, but most users probably won't need to consult it, as the program's tools are all quite straightforward. Overall, we were impressed PicPick's usefulness and attractiveness, and we recommend it highly.
PicPick installs and uninstalls without issues.

Cons
Still trying to find one.

"I give this 5 Stars excellent program"
Version: PicPick 3.2.3
Pros
How could you not like this program. You get it for free and it does a good job capturing screen shots.
Cons
For the price I can't see any cons

"Have been using versions of this for several years."
Version: PicPick 3.2.3
Pros
Great program to capture screen shots and have lot of photos on my computer that were make from PicPick.
Cons
No real cons for the program. It does what it says it will do easily.
Summary
EVeryone should have this on their computer so they can make screen captures. I usually capture an area and turn it into a .jpg and put it into my Pictures folders. Occasionally I capture a screen area and paste it into an e-mail. Can't imagine not having a program like this on my computer.

"Used often every day. You'll be happy."
Version: PicPick 3.2.3
Pros
Fast. Nice collection of tools, however I use screen capture 95% of the time.
Good developer response. I made a request and it appeared in the next version in a couple of days.Cons
Drawing the "next shape" sometimes selects the shape I just drew causing me to fumble around a bit.
It has a cool feature "scrolling window capture", where it actually presses the scroll bar for you and pieces together a big image. This is so amazing, but it doesn't work all of the time (not sure if that's PicPick's fault or windows).Summary
It's hard for me to settle in on a particular program to do tasks. I used PicPick for about a year before breaking down and buying the professional version (actually fairly inexpensive).
I make several (tens) of screenshots a day, the management of them is a bit cumbersome...no worse than multiple documents in MS Word, for example. However, some better management might be nice (autosave, screen capture library?? not sure).
Would be nice to have a more full-featured editor, but not really sure about that...I wouldn't want the GUI to get too fat. Still... -
"PicPick beats the pants off SnagIt"
Version: PicPick 3.2.2
Pros
Light-weight, easy to use. Lots of options. This is so good I bought the commercial version which is cheap compared to bloated Snag-It as to support the developers.
Cons
Some might consider this a pro, but it is updated often. Only annoyance if you get the free version is you have to opt-out of unwanted add-ons, but heck its free and the devs deserve to make some money.
Summary
Get it and quit being a Snag-head.

"Just OK, even for free"
Version: PicPick 3.2.2
Pros
Free program and does some basic stuff
Cons
Not nearly as user friendly as SnagIt which I am going back to. Also had problems uninstalling. Performed the noromal uninstall routine and it popped back up again after a reboot. Now I can't find it in my programs listing to uninstall. Now I'm treating it more like malware than freeware.
Summary
Not worth the time to install and learn. Go with SnagIt for a few extra bucks.

"Cannot Uninstall"
Version: PicPick 3.2
Pros
seems to work great
Cons
I like my other program better
Summary
I tried to uninstall and it does not show up in control panel and there is no uninstall program. PicPick's website was not helpful in removing in my case. I dont know about other people machines but it should show up in control panel...

"Good for Free"
Version: PicPick 3.2
Pros
Free, does many things for the price.
Cons
Not as easy to use as SnagIt. Does not have ability to highlight SnagIt. Had trouble uninstalling.
Summary
Used for a few weeks and went back to my $50 SnagIt program.
-
"PicPick is a must for every Windows computer user."
Version: PicPick 3.2
Pros
When I found out how powerful this program is, I tend to use it very frequently. When you want to create a .jpg out of something that you see on the Internet, it is handy to use especially if you use the shortcuts. Shift/Print Screen is my favorite shortcut.
Cons
This program hasn't got any cons that I have ever been able to discover. Lots of flexibility in how you use it.
Summary
I have had this program in my Notification Area for years which means that it is energized ready to be put to use. I have used it literally hundreds of of times since I initially installed it. One of the best free programs on my computer. Anybody who doesn't install this program and learn how to use it is just cheating themselves. As mentioned above, Shift/Print Screen is my favorite shortcut. It allows me to cut or frame out a section of screen to save to my computer.

"Always ready to clip screen items or annotate images"
Version: PicPick 3.1.9
Pros
I run Photoshop and Fireworks but PicPick is ready to pop up and do quick fixes on images & diagrams. You can erase little area just by chopping them out - good for removing bank account numbers etc.
Cons
Can't think of one except that it doesn't make beds.
Summary
even if you use more powerful tools, PicPick is just one click away for quick fixes.
