CNET Editors' review
This simple application adds basic information to photos. Double-clicking the downloaded file launches the Photo Dater application itself, not an installer. You can annotate one file, entire folders, or selected multiple files, adding the file's date or your own customizable one. The option to specify your own date lets you stamp multiple files with any short text; the program doesn't enforce a date style. You can pick the color, font, and size of the stamp text. The program offers the choice of putting the stamp in the top left, top right, bottom left, or bottom right, or at the XY coordinates you choose. Though you don't get a preview of the stamped file, the program saves the stamped file as filename-dated without changing the original. Anyone who needs to batch-stamp images could find Photo Dater useful.Publisher's Description
From Jason Specht:
Photo Dater is the ultimate program for placing date/time stamps on your photos. It works with bitmaps (BMPs), JPEGs, and GIFs. You can customize nearly everything about the stamp, specifying your own format, position, size, color, and font. You can date a single file at a time, multiple files, or an entire folder.

"Free Is Good"
Version: Photo Dater 1.2
Pros
was able to put date stamp on images quite easily
Cons
when I used lower right is seemed to be off image, but when I used top left it was right on. At first font was to small to read and had to increase quite a bit to get a decent size
Summary
Tried different products, but this was the easiest to use, and free is good

"It works but not the way I want it."
Version: Photo Dater 1.2
Pros
Small and easy to use. It does put the time stamp in any position, any colour and font of your choice.
Cons
It put the date of file is created and not the picture was taken date.
-
"It works but has issues"
Version: Photo Dater 1.2
Pros
It puts the date stamp on the photo in any position you want it.
Cons
It uses the Creation Date of the file instead of the Date Taken of the picture. If you run this program on the original jpegs directly from the camera, those two dates are the same, but if you run this program on the jpegs after editing, the date changes to the date you saved the edited image.

"Exactly what I've been looking for!"
Version: Photo Dater 1.2
Pros
This software does what it says almost too easily! I have been looking for weeks to find a program that will add dates to an entire folder. I have downloaded and tried many different programs, but none work as well and as simply as this one.

Pros
simeple, no installation, gets the job done
Cons
No ability to recursively walk down a directory tree to stamp all photos, without which I can't use it.
-

-

-
"Simple, does what it says but compresses photo"
Version: Photo Dater 1.2
Summary
++It is free, simple and does the job
- Compresses the jpeg file, with no user control
- I increased the font size and it put only the year on the photo the rest was off the edge -
"Great little utility"
Version: Photo Dater 1.2
Summary
I have often wished that I could date stamp my digital pictures. Now I can, and it's fast and easy.

"its very basic"
Version: Photo Dater 1.2
Summary
I find it pretty basic, but quite restrictive and not helpful as it does not indicate how to "measure" X&Y. But then again, because it is free, I can't really complain.
