  Can calculate 'Molar' concentrations under limited conditions. Has a fairly useful Periodic Table.

  Very limited utility. Only useful for Molar solutions, only one type of soultion. Awkward titles of input boxes. "Concentration /mol dm^-3" is just "Molarity". Periodic Table is so small there's no room for anything but the element abbr.

  Summary

  Trivialware As a chemist I find this application of extremely limited usefulness. The main point of a Periodic Table for the preparation of molar solutions is to assist in calculating a molecular weight (MW, or what the Solution Calculator awkwardly call "Molar mass /g mol^-1"). However, the only way to do so is to hit a button once for every atom in the molecular formula, which presupposes that you KNOW the molecular formula. For example, if the chemical you want to calculate the amount needed is sucrose (table sugar), you need to know the molecular formula, which is C12H22O11. To get it's molecular weight (MW) you would need to hit the "H" button 22 times, the "C" button 12 times and the "O" button 11 times...a total of 45 additions for this "small" molecule! There are much faster, better--and much more accurate--ways to get this information. If it's not already on the bottle, you can easily look it up in an any chemist's reference book or if your at the computer, just look up "sucrose" in Wikipedia and the answer will be on the right side of the screen. There are free MW calculators (CNET) that you just type in the formula and get the WM directly. Even a hand-held calculator would be faster. All of this just to do a calculation that a typical chemist might do a couple of times a day. As a stand alone Periodic Table, there are many better choices. One that comes to mind is the "Calculator for Science Students" a freeware app found on CNET that can do thousands of other types of calculations and conversions in addition. While the Solutions Calculator loaded on Win 7, it was only after ignoring an error message. The cpp did so little I considered that it only partially loaded. Loading it without error on an XP computer, without any error, proved that, Yes Virginia, that's all there is.

  Pros

  It was fun to see a thing like this again. I was some years since i went to schol. to me it seems just fine-- but the prg i have taken has a little flaw--when showing the table --the last piece of each "box" with names is missing--

  maybe i got lost trying to use calculator.........there is not much help to get... and trying to use the editor sends U on a wild goose chase

  It's a good start, but there are better alternatives depending on what you need. I found pElement the other day and accomplishes quite a bit.
