Open any file and display contents as raw data or text.
Peep cracks open any file regardless of format and lets you view each byte as data (decimal or hex notation) or as text. Try different text encodings to find the correct one or the best fit. Filter out the text from a proprietary format. Save a text file using the same or another encoding. Peep is a useful utility when programming or when wishing to extract information from a file that you can't open otherwise. Athough it looks like a hexeditor type programme, it's not intended it to be an editor but rather to inspect, access or sort out encoding problems.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
...and the only reason it doesn't, most likely, is that there was some difficulty in expanding the first version file. The added features with this version make this one really nice, simple app. It does exactly what it says it will do, and even those to whom the results will not be too relevant for ordinary system usage, just the ability to view files' contents should satisfy most anyone's curiosity.
This is freeware; author suggests maybe "buying a sandwich/drink" as encouragement to write more software, which I will do as soon as a way to do so other than Paypal is available.
Definitely 5 stars.

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Expanding in Stuffit Expander works fine, and the app does work.
The program itself disappoints if you are not a programmer and wish to extract readable text.
Scrolling still is quirky and the page down/up and home/end buttons on my Apple keyboard get no response beyond an alert sound.
You must use Open menu to work with a file; you can't drag and drop a file onto the Peep window.
