Editors' review

Organizing login information is a painless process with this user-friendly password manager. Novices will especially appreciate its straightforward user interface.

Password Dragon opens with an intuitive interface that isn't overwhelming. Menu and toolbar items run across the top, and individual login information is displayed in the main window. To help users, the program activates only the buttons necessary for the task at hand to avoid any confusion. When we clicked on the New File button, we were directed to the Add Record button, which was then activated. The input fields are all self-explanatory, and we quickly entered account information, including username, password, and site URL. The program includes a password generator, and the ability to launch the Web site. The Options menu gives you all sorts of settings for masking certain login info, setting an inactivity timeout, and copying items to your clipboard at startup. When we were finished, we were able to easily save information in an encrypted file.

We really liked this programs no fuss, no muss approach to protecting login information. We recommend it for all users.

    "Simple and Effective"

    June 28, 2011   |   By writegeist

    Version: Password Dragon 5.0.8

    Pros

Worked well, just like the readme said. Simple interface. Easy to create a variety of hard-to-crack passwords. Plenty of space to add site and account attributes and notes.

    Cons

Nothing yet. The more I use it I may discover some possible upgrades.

    Summary

Portable and highly useable. When I get some extra bucks, I plan on sending in a donation. Anything that makes my life easier is worth paying for.

"Installation easy if you know how."

    June 13, 2011   |   By TechieMark

    Version: Password Dragon 5.0.8

    Pros

Haven't used yet but responding to negative posts with intent to help others install.

    Cons

Install requires some help for neophytes.

    Summary

I'm using Windows 7 but this applies to others.
Before you begin test your java runtime by browsing to http://www.javatester.org/version.html (seeing the pinkish square qualifies) Yes? Good... begin download.
    1. Download to "username\Downloads" folder
    2. Extract (sub-folder will be created for you named "username\Downloads\passworddragon")
    3. R. click on desktop to create a "new" shortcut.
    4. Locate passworddragon.jar file (see 2. to locate) using Browse button. There... done!
    5. You can change the icon if you want by R. clicking the shortcut, selecting properties and selecting the icon in the same folder you found the .jar file.
Now use the help button and read how to use the program.

    "Simple and Effective"

    March 08, 2010   |   By sjchipman

    Version: Password Dragon 5.0.8

    Pros

Works across multiple platforms and can be launched from a USB drive. Has user defined fields that can be relabeled. Allows for import from other databases. Auto logs out after a defined interval. Easy to navigate, sort, filter and keyword search

    Cons

It would be good to have a bulk edit in order to modify the Category for a number of records at once. The Bulk Actions menu item appears to not have been completed.

    Summary

As someone who recently converted from PC to Mac, I was looking for a replacement for a long time Windows password administrator app that I really liked. All the other apps that I researched seemed very bloated and had too few fields.

This was almost exactly the simple, yet feature rich type of app I was looking for and I was able to import all my legacy password records with relative ease.

Some users may be turned off by the bland and sometimes inconsistent jar UI, but that's the nature of a cross platform app.

    "It is very unprofessional, awkward"

    October 06, 2009   |   By mbohne1

    Version: Password Dragon 5.0.8

    Pros

    Someone tried.

    Cons

The Import is crazy, couldn?t get it to work, .csv, .txt or otherwise. Seems to be a flaw with size. Furthermore, what?s this ?Bulk Action? under Record ? It goes nowhere. Think I?ll stick with the DB I?ve been using for 6-7 years now.

    "Simple but effective"

    September 06, 2009   |   By downONu

    Version: Password Dragon 5.0.8

    Pros

Has a fairly clear method for importing password data from another program. Interface simple and dated looking but works.

    Cons

Could use more modern interface. Would be handy to be able to import old data from spreadsheet format (CSV format is awkward).

    A waste of my time.

    "I was surprised!"

    January 15, 2009   |   By itsreallyme99

    Version: Password Dragon 5.0.8

    Pros

I wish I knew. I felt challenged to get this to work because of the problems others were having.

    Cons

No problem downloading the zip file. Already had updated Java to newest version. Unzipped into unique folder and double clicked on "passworddragon.jar" file. Nothing. I turned off firewall and resident spyware/antivirus software. Still no go?????

    Summary

Obviously the product has some excellent qualities considering some of the glowing reviews. I sure wish I knew what my problem is. I now plan to check out other alternatives.

Great app for managing passwords. Without something like this your passwords could never be as safe from would-be hackers. I've been using it for years and love it. I donated to show my thanks to the developer, you should consider it as well.
