CNET Editors' review
PCalc is a high-powered scientific calculator that goes beyond the features found in the built-in Mac OS scientific calculator. Scientists, mathematicians, or just serious students will find quite a few bonus features comparable to those found in standalone programmable scientific calculators which PCalc's interface mimics--including quick one-key conversions, constants organized by field (from astronomical to physicochemical), an optional RPN mode that matches modern calculators, and decimal, hexadecimal, octal, and binary modes. You can also write your own functions and conversions, maintain multiple calculators (all with different states), and use PCalc's slightly lower-powered Dashboard widget for quick calculations. PCalc even comes with a virtual tape, so you can look through all your past calculations, and you can resize and skin your calculator with a variety of themes.
This shareware app is also available as a cheaper (and very similar) iPhone and iPad app, and the Mac version has been updated to add more of its features. If you regularly use a scientific calculator, you should definitely check out PCalc, on any platform.

A Dashboard Widget is included with the main application. A special version of the previous PCalc 2 release was included by Apple with most Macs sold in the US during 2002.

"All I want and more in a very readable interface."
Version: PCalc 3.7
Pros
Much more than just a regular and scientific calculator: things like financial and trigonometric calculator faces. Many included customization skins. All kinds of conversions between various systems of units are built in.
Cons
The only conversion that I use often and that is missing is currency conversion, which is available on Apple's included OS X Calculator. But, the interface is much sleeker. Come to think of it, there is no religious conversion function, either <g>.
Summary
More reminiscent of the pocketable Texas Instrument and HP calculators of days gone by (does anybody carry these anymore?), and for $10, it's a steal.

"Super software and superior to what comes with the Mac"
Version: PCalc 3.6
Pros
I like the color variations, the "tape" capability, the simplicity of functions, graphic design, and use from the Dashboard.
Cons
Haven't found anything I don't like yet.
-
"I thought that Mac was a academic product!?!"
Version: PCalc 3.6
Pros
it's better than the calculator that comes with the Mac OS... that's about all for Pro's
Cons
it costs money! I would imagine every student needs a good calculator for school. Why is the Apple tax so much?
Summary
I have both a Mac and a PC, and if I wanted to switch to a Mac only it would cost me a fortune to get the necessary software for college. A Windows 7 machine as much more freeware available for academic use. I spent $1700 on an iMac, and would need to spend another $600 on software that is free for a PC.
