This privacy tool lacks the comprehensive feature set found in many competing utilities, but its interface is well-designed and logically arranged. PC Confidential eradicates Web-surfing traces by deleting items such as cookies, typed URLs, and cached files (the program supports Opera and Firefox). It also can tidy up common Windows system areas, such as the Recent Documents list and the Recycle Bin. PC Confidential cleans up after three media players and three IM clients, but it lacks support for other third-party applications, such as P2P programs and antispyware utilities. You'll also find a file shredder. The latest version of the demo provides full access to the program's features for 10 uses, which is better than before, but still subpar. Considering how easy it is to find similar apps whose demos last a full 14 days or more, we can only give this one a lukewarm recommendation.

Publisher's description

From Winferno Software :

PC Confidential allows users to delete their computer history including: Web browser history, the cache, cookies, search history, temporary files, recent documents, Recycle Bin, Windows Explorer history, instant messenger history, chat logs, and media player history. Users can manually scan and delete, run a full-system scan with just one-click, or set the program to scan and delete history each time the browser is shut down. PC Confidential also can shred sensitive files so they cannot be restored. This feature was designed in accordance with the Department of Defense standards (DoD 5220.22-M, the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual) for data removal, and therefore even state-of-the-art data-recovery tools cannot recover files shredded by PC Confidential. Also, PC Confidential uses security classifications to selectively destroy sensitive private information, while retaining trusted cookies for automatic logins to trusted sites.

Version 2005.2.221 now allows full functionality for 10 uses in trial mode.
