  Summary

  Since there is no help file, I have put this together (feel free to copy) Netzwelt Webtools HELP This little app is entirely in German, and there is no help file. The app does not install itself in a traditional manner. Activate it by running the .exe file. I made a folder C:\Program Files (x86)\netzwelt_webtools, put the executable there, then dragged a shortcut for it to my Start menu. Tooltips: Schlie?en (the "Add Your Review form does not allow the character that looks like a "B") = Close (Terminate app) Immer im vordergrund = Always In The Foreground Lineal Anzeigen = Show Lineal (Ruler mode) Anzeigen Color-picker = Show Color-picker Zoomer Anzeigen = Show Zoomer The controls at the top left are Exit [X], Layer mode, Ruler and Color-picker modes, and Zoomer mode.At the right top edge of the window is a double-headed arrow icon that allows horizontal resizing of the window. What I call "Layer Mode" is a toggle between Always In The Foreground and "regular" window mode. When it appears as a hyphen (-) it is stays the foreground. A click will make it act like a normal window, and the icon will appear as a "+" symbol. The pixel measurement tool (default mode - icon looks like a right-align icon in a word processor) only appears to give a horizontal value from the zero point when in Ruler mode. The horizontal pixel count appears on the ruler to the right of the control and is determined by the position of the cursor anywhere on the screen (I have a dual -monitor system and it works fine right across the screens). Moving the cursor to the left of the ruler origin will provide negative values. It is possible, with great care, to drag the ruler to the 0 position horizontally on the screen, although it will drag the origin past the edges of the screen. Dragging is done by grabbing anywhere on the ruler. Show Color-Picker (the pencil icon) changes the ruler so that you can drag a + shaped cursor onto the pixel you want to determine its Hex RGB value. You can display up to 8 colors simultaneaously by selecting a different radio button, dragging the cursor to another pixel, and the RGB code for that pixel will appear in the text box to its right. When in this mode, it is only possible to drag the window using the upper area of the window - where a title bar would normally appear. The horizontal resize works the same as it normally would. "Doppelklick: Farbwert in Zwischenablage kopieren" means "Double click: copy color value to clipboard." This will copy the hex value so you can paste it into your code. "Rechtsklick: Farbwert aus Zwischenablage einfugen" means "Right Click: Paste from clipboard color value." This allows you to copy and paste a hex value from code to see the color it represents. The Zoom Tool (The magnifying glass) magnifies an area of the screen of about 265 px (W) x 235 px (H) by a factor af 48x. At the bottom of the zoomed area there is a "status bar" that gives the coordinates of the top left corner of the rectangle (the vertical postion may be determined by using this mode). The only way I can see to turn it off is to bring it to the coordinates 0,0 on the screen.

  Pros

  Good, nice, handy, no installation necessary.<p>Really very useful tool.<p>I would rate it with three stars, but taking in account that it is free, it deserves four.

  Cons

  First of all, for the following comments, note that I am using Vista.<p>1. Each time you execute this program, you need to give a special permission because the editor is unknown to Vista. Fortunately, it is possible to untick a check box in the system's message to skip this checking again next times.<p>2. I was not able to put the ruler vertical. Apparently, the button "Lineal Anzeigen" might do that???, but it does nothing. Not that, nor any other function, really nothing. What's for that button?<p>3. The button to put it in the background "Immer im Vordergrund" is a little bit tricky, sometimes it adds more instances of the ruler. A "Minimize" button (non existing) would be of more help than this button. <p>4. It's all in German. Maybe adding some words in English, after the German ones, into each button's tip will not harm anybody. You need some time (not much, anyway) to figure out what the different controls are about.

  Pros

  Good, easy to use software that does what it says and is absolutely free. No hidden pitchfalls! As you only have to unzip one file, you can easily take it along on a stick.

  Cons

  The whole program is in German. Not that you need much explanation, if you have half a brain you can figure everything out in under 5 minutes. An English tutorial would make this software perfect, especially for novice web designers, though!
