nETSCAPE WAS ONE OF THE BEST IN ITS HEY-DAY. If it is ever revived and put back together from scratch, I'm sure it will once again reign among the best of browsers next to Firefox Google chrome Opera and Avant.
Cons
No longer maintained browser no up dates or anything. Biggest downfall was the way it looked at IE based websites. Other than that use to be in the top 5.
Summary
While still usable, netscape may need to be revived for the next generation. My browser have changed over the yrs on which to use. First was netscape navigator/comminicator then was Opera Maxthon An now I stay with Avant.I have tried the functionality of other browser and while a lot are richer in features, most those features are wasted space. Avant allows online storage of bookmarks and autofils. The nice thing that Netscape had was its interface with AOL. and that it automatically logged you into your email from your pc. A down fall to netscape was it's intercompatibility with IE based sites. For some reason both AOL and Netscape did not load them all the time and when they did it took what seemed to be hours.

Just a quick answer to a couple questions here.
1. Netscape is no longer supported, correct. To just give a little background on why... In 1998 Netscape decided to release the code that made up Netscape to the public, with the idea that in doing so, thousands of programers around the world would have the opportunity and the ability to work on bettering it. They recognized that the browser could grow faster and better when not restricted to only being developed by a small group of people inside of one company. The group that was formed to accomplish this was Mozilla. The end product is Firefox, first available in 2002. (Firefox 1.0 was released in 2004, though). In that space of time between Netscape releasing their code, and Firefox's release, there was the Mozilla Suite, which is now Mozilla SeaMonkey. Early versions of Firefox and late versions of Netscape actually share a fair amount of code, some of which was developed by Mozilla and used quite legally; anyone can.
2. Firefox does not contain all of the AOL branding and programs because AOL doesn't own Firefox, Mozilla does. Unlike AOL, Mozilla isn't a company; it's a non-profit organization dedicated to free, open source, community driven software. AOL was not the original owner of Netscape either. AOL went after Microsoft on an antitrust lawsuit based on how they were packaging IE with Windows. AOL won a large amount of money ...and the ability to distribute IE as their default browser, without paying any royalties to Microsoft for 7 years. Thus, AOL switched over to IE. -

Those of us who started browsing the internet back in the early days it when it was gaining momentum recognize and remember Netscape with fondness. It was my browser of choice in the glory days.
Cons
It is no longer supported, but it did give birth to Mozilla Firefox.
Summary
Sometimes it is nice to have the friendly Netscape logo and interface especially if you want to have multiple browsers open at the same time for using multiple user accounts and for web development testing (to be sure your content loads for those with older computers).
