The sequel to Need for Speed Underground has big shoes to fill, and it does so admirably, with vastly improved graphics, new gameplay modes, and an improved interface. The demo also pushes beyond the scope of the original, offering a "free roam" mode to explore the cityscape and challenge competitors at will, two types of "quick races" on two different tracks, and the ability to race other drivers online.
The graphics are the most obvious improvement. We only can describe them as truly awesome, even on lower settings. Lights on the bridge sparkle in the night sky, and mannequins in store windows catch your eye as you blaze past. Little things, such as pumping your hydraulics and bouncing down the avenue, make the experience even more fun. Racing is arcade style (it's awfully hard to destroy your car) and easy to learn, yet power drifting is an acquired skill that keeps the learning curve gradual, but long. The only knocks on this top-notch driving game are the ubiquitous product placements (a Cingular messaging system?), high system requirements, and large download size. Considering the depth and quality of Need for Speed Underground 2, though, most gamers can forgive those details.

great game, with realistic handling, great choice on mods, and a genius world to drive around in, theres a trick to every corner, theres still places that i havent mastered and ive been playing this game for more than 5 years, others dont compete

lack of attention put into the traffic- cars and traffic directions alike, and also being outdated by some of the features in later games such as autosculpt, but all in all best game of the series

ive been playing this game for atleast 5 years and still not bored of it, truely a great game, it has never been topped by any other racing game ive played, the newer games are too dumbed down and "full throttle, full lock(steering)" this game requires acuracy and skill to master, and it takes years to get certain things right, i still **** up certain corners and as we all do, crash into traffic now and then. the selection of cars is great fun to play with, and with the most, and best selection of race modes of all the series, they didnt go to waste. drift mode could have used a bit of dumbing down, with steering setup like in need for speed carbon. it would be nice to see a larger selection of cars, available through a downloadable patch or something along these lines, as it only includes brand new cars, and i would love to drive an mid 60s americian musclee through the city, and i know you want to aswell ;) would be knda exiting with cops added, but then you cant drive fast without getting into a cop chase, and i honestly dont see how that would work in this game, its built for driving skill and finesse,this is one of many games i would love to see re-released with a few updates but im sure they would ruin it with such things like cops, i would opt for map expansion, for the construction areas to be completed and lead to new areas and for larger car selection, autosculpt, expansion of modifications available and for a graphics interface like in need for speed carbon, auto-travel feature would be good, and definately a improvement on the trraffic, smarter traffic ai, better models on the traffic cars, and more types of traffic cars, NOT TRUCKS THROUGH. steering interface tweaked in drift mode and trottle less sensitive to droppingout when u get the flick wrong. i gues thats all for now, might post another reveiw when someone complains about no cops again ;) cao for now
