Chinese zodiac signs are also known as animal signs. These signs are based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The Chinese calendar has a sixty-year cycle. An animal and an element signify each year. There are five elements and twelve animals which give rise to the sixty-year cycle. The period from mid January to mid February of each year may have a different animal sign and element based on the Chinese Calendar. The animal that governs that year governs a person born in a particular year. The different Chinese animal signs based on a range of dates are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
