  Does what it says, I guess. Never got to try it out since it installed so much garbage along with itself.

  Cons

  Installs several extensions to your browser WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION OR TELLING YOU. FastestChrome, GreatArcadeHits and PassShow. All awful spam that puts a bunch of ads in your browser and brings up unwanted popups when you click in blank areas.

  DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL. THIS WILL ADD THREE SPAMWARE EXTENSIONS TO YOUR BROWSER WITHOUT TELLING YOU!

  It's free. It records the screen. It can record audio via mic. It allows you to select the are you wish to record

  Cons

  It has a watermark until you pay at least $50. The quality is grainy. UI is not very intuitive. Much better products out there.

  Summary

  There is no reason to use this product when Microsoft has their own free product with only a 10-minute-recording-time limitation; no watermarks, better quality, better audio recording. If you want a real screen recorder/capturer, check out Microsoft Expressions Encoder 4.

  Resolution was terrible. Sound didn't work. Worst of all, it downloaded sweetpacks onto my machine. Spamware that takes 20 minutes to uninstall

  DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!! You will spend more time uninstalling the spamware that comes with it then you will actually trying to get it to work.

  All I ever got to work was recording the box itself. With only two recordings to test the free trial, it didn't seem worth it to use the two recordings of the control box to decide if I liked it. Their help was directed to those who already know how to use it. For instance there is nothing about how to record a specific window on a multiple window or multiple monitor system. It just says to use the input.

  Could be terrific, but no evidence of that.

  1. LARGE PREVIEW WINDOW, which you can also view fullscreen! Deskshare's companion product, Video Edit Magic, has an even better Preview Window allowing fullscreen viewing, very rare and useful! 2. Clear 'Help', well presented. Very impressive. 3. Intuitive interface. 5. Customizable hot keys, minimizes to tray, yes! 6. MP3/WMA allowed, but not in their avi default (PCM). 7. Extra recording options like hiding desktop icons or wallpaper. You can specify resolution. 8. Helpful hints on settings which use less CPU. 9. Operates on old Pentium IV, don't need dual-core. 10. You can replay in the Recorder. 11. You can repair crashed Recorder files. 12. Mouse and sound optionally recordable. 11. Has a forum online=dedication to the product.

  Cons

  1. If using hotkey to start recording, the minimized window first restores, which is unnerving. However, it isn't part of the video recorded. Allow a one-two second delay before speaking, but assume the screen is recorded right away. 2. Voice Pitch shift occurs unpredictably, though that might be due to other software (i.e., some program on your machine sends for an update). It doesn't last long. 3. Limited codecs, but the most Xvid, is customizable exactly as on your system. Their avi default is surprisingly good for 1280 x 1024 recording. 4. VERY Limited editing or post-production options with this product and their Video Edit Magic. I wish Deskshare and AVS4YOU and nch software would pool their talents. The latter two have some great preproduction features, but a lousy interface. 5. Annoyingly large icons with no ability to turn off text labels. 6. Default avi recording codec, though good for video, annoyingly demands PCM for audio.

  Summary

  Backgrounder: I've made over 400 HD Youtube videos in the last few years, at the rate of several per week; most of these are fullscreen recordings of my desktop, and are text-intensive (Bible exegesis). Main programs used are AutoScreenRecorder Pro from wisdom-soft, and AVS4YOU. Due to hassles in using both programs, I came to cnet to find alternatives. It's been frustrating.. until now. This program has potential. Overall, it's intelligently-designed. There is no banner in the trial version, but there is a limit of 3 minutes to record. Wish they'd make it just a little longer, so you can test for CPU overload and other problems which only show in a longer recording. But if you know what to test, 3 minutes is maybe enough. TEST MOUSEHOOKS between the recorder and whatever desktop activity you're recording. I will probably buy this program, but this review is for the cheaper standard version, and I've not yet tested the Pro version. Don't buy this without also buying Video Edit Magic. Will update the review when I've tested both programs, and will report if I bought it. I'd be willing to pay a LOT more, if they would soup up the text overlay options in either Recorder or Editor.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jul 8, 2012<p/>UPDATE: #1 pro re Video Magic suddenly is not true after exiting the program. Now I can't get the window to float outside the menu, and it 'borders' the screen with too much deadspace, such that the text is greeked. Will have to figure out why it worked the first time, but not now. No instructions on that.
