My Data Manager by Mobidia provides a simple, passive way of tracking your Android device's data usage. It's perfect if you have a limited data plan and are constantly trying to avoid those annoying overage charges.
Once you install My Data Manager, it automatically starts tracking your home data usage, roaming, and Wi-Fi usage, all in real time. It lists all of the active, data-connected apps on your device, the amount of raw data used in MBs, and the percentage of data transfer currently being used by each app. It even has pie charts.
But that's just the beginning. In order to take full advantage of My Data Manager, you have to configure your plan settings. Select whether you're on a prepay or pay-as-you-go plan, type in your maximum allowed data usage per month, and select the day of the month your billing cycle refreshes. Once you input all the necessary info, My Data Manager will keep a summary of your usage and plan details at the top of the app for easy reference, and will notify you if you're getting dangerously close to going over your monthly allotment. If you like, you can even set other usage thresholds to trigger notifications.
My Data Manager is an incredibly convenient tool that stays active in the background, and is always accessible from your pull-down Android notification bar. Also, it doesn't suck up too much battery power, which is nice. Even though I have an unlimited data account, I like to fire it up to get a snapshot of the apps that are constantly using my bandwidth. Call me a geek, but I like to know what's going on behind the scenes when it comes to my Android device.
From Mobidia Technology:
Take control of your mobile data. Monitor app data usage for your home and roaming plans. Set usage alarms to manage your bill. Track historical consumption to ensure you are buying the ideal plan and maximize how you use your data. Monitor per app data consumption to understand what apps are consuming the most data, and what apps are almost free. Save money by using your data plans more effectively.Permissions:-Coarse Location: Location info is not accessed by default. After installation, you may choose to manually enable the reporter feature which allows Mobidia to anonymously analyze app usage statistics by coarse location for instance which city and on which network the usage occurred. Your precise location (i.e. GPS coordinates) and your identity are not collected by My Data Manager. You can expect this anonymized data to be used to guide app developers to use data more efficiently, and by the mobile industry to better understand general usage patterns for the development of innovative data plans and the tuning of network optimization strategies.-Prevent Phone From Sleeping: The wake lock is used to increase accuracy if your screen is off, or shut off during a MDM update cycle. It should not affect battery life.Note: SD storage is not supported. If placed on the SD card the monitoring service will be disrupted in some cases. This release incorporates advertising to help us fund continued development and evolution of the app.Recent changes:1.1.23New Features-Notification icon is now invisible-Optional anonymous usage and city location share feature, disabled by default-WiMAX device support addedEnhancements-Superior per app usage accuracy on heavily loaded phones-Increased accuracy when device is asleep-Background traffic no longer allocated to foreground app-WiFi reporting fix for Samsung Gio and AceContent rating: Low Maturity
