MineSweeper3D

Publisher's Description

From Robert Webb:

Minesweeper on 3D surfaces (polyhedra), with high-quality graphics and special effects when you win or lose. Can you flag all the mines? New tile shapes (not just squares) bring new challenges. Rotate boards in 3D to access tiles. World record times kept online. Submit new records from the program. Latest records are downloaded automatically. You'll even be told when someone beats one of your world records.

Meters at the side show you how well you are doing compared to your personal best or world record time. Or just solve puzzles at your own pace. Game stats can be displayed. The game can also offer hints when you're stuck, and has an auto-solver built in, so you can watch the computer solve a puzzle by itself (makes a good screen saver). Lots of polyhedron boards to choose from. Complete with humorous home-made sound effects.

What's new in this version: Version 2.6 added four new boards.

    "Great Game"

    March 7, 2007  |   By Skippums

    Version: MineSweeper3D 2.4

    Pros

    1. 38 different polyhedra with 16 different levels of play each, totaling 608 boards

    2. Demo mode can be used to determine the rough solvability of a particular level.

    3. Flag mines at the end of the game instead of blindly guessing.

    4. Responsive graphics... doesn't lag.

    Cons

I wish there was a feature that would allow a game loser to go back (after blowing up a mine) and have the computer show any possible moves that could have been done logically (in place of the move that lost the game). This would allow users to learn from their mistakes.

    "Whole Lotta Fun!"

    December 30, 2006  |   By spiderquark

    Version: MineSweeper3D 2.4

    Pros

If you like "normal" Minesweeper, you will LOVE this game. So many boards! So many polyhedral shapes! So many new challeneges! This program was easily worth the $ and has run completely bug-free since installation.

    Cons

The only "con" I can think of is that a user should be pretty good at the original Minesweeper, or s/he will be lost in Minesweeper 3d. Then again, don't we all fancy ourselves as "pretty good" at Minesweeper?

"Great look, feel and features, and especially fun to play."

    June 20, 2005  |   By adoskey

    Version: MineSweeper3D 2.2

    Pros

The different shapes to the cells really changes the "character" of the game. You will be more likely to successfully navigate through patches of triangles, but it will also be much slower. This can lead to different strategies to attack the board.

I have played all of the boards on all of the levels, (and completed nearly all of them), and each one has interesting qualities that make it different from the others. If you don't believe me try the Great Stellated Dodecahedron on Subdivision Level 1. It is much harder than most Level 4 boards. GSD Level 2 is only a little easier, and Levels 4 and 8 are even easier (but still quite challenging to complete quickly).

    Cons

With so many interesting boards and levels to play, I often have trouble figuring which one I want to attack next. (ok, that's something I like about it too)

"The 3rd dimension does not add fun but multiplies it"

    Version: MineSweeper3D 2.2

    Pros

I love that one. I can spend hours playing it. There are a lot of different boards and some of them can be really tricky.

    "I think its pretty awesome!"

    June 17, 2005  |   By egolpe

    Version: MineSweeper3D 2.2

    Pros

This is one of the most addicting versions of minesweeper.. one of the few software programs I'm proud to have bought. One of the first .NET programs I know of. Great job Robert!

    Cons

I haven't come up against any startup errors, and the high scores work great for me. The mines blowing up can be a bit 'shocking' when you don;t expect it. ;)

"Minesweeper on the faces of regular polyhedra! Fully rotatable, with shading."

    June 15, 2005  |   By Skippums

    Version: MineSweeper3D 2.2

    Pros

Other than a few minor glitches, the program is superbly done. I am very impressed with the auto-solver, and the number of distinct geometric shapes and difficulty levels. I have had the program for over a year and still have not played every level. I also love the 'mark mines to win' feature that alleviates the frustrationt of last-minute guessing.

    Cons

Submitting new world records is tedious, and the software repeatedly gives an error each time it is loaded (although I cannot tell what the error is). In addition, viewing best times is difficult, although you can export the HTML document without trouble.
