Magix Music Maker 2015 offers studio-quality multitrack music production capabilities in an easy-to-use package. You can drag and drop songs and other files into it, record and mix high-resolution audio, and publish your tunes on sites like SoundCloud. The full version has 99 tracks and more than 3,000 clips and loops in a wide range of musical genres and styles, with more available online. New features include analog synths and dubstep and hip-hop drums.

Pros

Unique layout: Music Maker's layout is quite unique and much more efficient than similar tools we've tried. For example, each track has individual Solo, Mute, and Record buttons, as well as an effects (FX) menu.

Quick start: A quick start splash screen and a welcome screen made it easy to open existing projects, start a new one, and load demos and video tutorials. We could create music by dragging and dropping tunes, record music using a microphone or other inputs, mix tunes using preconfigured templates, and publish and share music online.

Fun: Features like drag and drop keep Music Maker fun to use.

Extended trial: You can extend the seven-day, feature-limited free trial period to 30 days by registering.

Cons

Nags: The free trial involves clicking through frequent and consecutive nag screens.

Bottom Line

Magix Music Maker 2015 creates pro-quality music. It's easy to use, too, and that spells fun.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Magix Music Maker 2015.

"Sorry but no more trust in this"

December 19, 2015  |  By I seethisname

2015-12-19 10:38:08  |  By I seethisname

 |  Version: Magix Music Maker 2016 2016

Pros

Great interface and easy to read....More room and time for creativity. Easy to learn and no so many buttons, sliders and knobs to figure out.

Cons

Buggy.....Buggy......Buggy. Dont install WINDOWS 10 after installing MMM (any version)

Summary

I've been a customer since 2005 and have always been happy with MMM except for a few minor problems such as the piano not working as well. But now, since installing windows 10 after MMM2015 was installed, messed up the installation pretty bad! Under the midi instruments, my Vita solo instruments no longer work and there is no work around. It will require another activation however when you click on it...it takes you to a website that has no English translation.
EdiThe track window data is not in sync with the curser. When you edit a track and record an edit....it does not record in the right spot and must manually be adjusted. The mixer keeps changing the volumes you set it at. again...it's a mess. I tried reverting back to as far as 2013, but nothing helped. I dont know who to blame...Windows 10 or Magix for not responding to my tech help emails!

"More buggy than previous versions"

November 08, 2015

2015-11-08 07:01:21

 |  Version: Magix Music Maker 2016 2016

Pros

Another take on music production
Initial start fantastique

Cons

Too buggy
Creativity often lost
Suddenly forgets the instrument in the midi track with all it's initial settings
Suddenly deletes half the arrangement after midi edit (able to redo this error af revert of save)
If your production takes more than 32 bars, it slows down and crashes often... this goes for all versions of MMM.
Crash, crash, crash

Summary

Just wish these Germans would get their act together and reprogram this app for good. There are DLL's from 1998!!! That was when Windows 95 and 98 was roaming!!! No wonder it's one big crash.
I really love their ideas and work flow they offer. But the execution ... OMG ... it's poor. Virtually as buggy as ... yes, Windows 95.

"Good but buggy"

 |  Version: Magix Music Maker 2013

Pros

I've made some professional quality tunes with this product.
It allows me to record audio.
It allows me to use VST plugins.
It came with a free copy of music studio (2013 premium edition)
Onboard sound is pretty snazzy.
Good for beginners.

Cons

It crashes when I want to change the tempo on a track sometimes.
It crashes when I want to use an effect sometimes.
Sometimes it crashes for no reason at all!
All the crashes lead me to the tedious option of saving songs three times (i.e. "Tune", "Tune2", "Tune3" etc) just so I don't lose my entire song and have to start all over again which has happened before I adopted this system!
You cannot play keyboard whilst adjusting effects on a vst simultaneously which makes it very hard to get authentic modulation sounds for some style (dubstep for example).
Revolta fails to load after you have powered down the program, saying something about not enough memory in the system...... I have 8gb of memory on a 64bit system and whilst I accept that magix is a 32bit program, I have run it with all other programs off and checked task manager for actual memory usage.

Summary

This is a great program for beginners and I would recommend it for such, ultimately though I think it tries to do too much and can't deliver on what it promises. The more of an advanced user I become the more I see MMM's limitations. I can't afford, nowadays, to use a program that crashes so often at crucial stages in a mix.
For more reference I have been using the program for over 2 years and have 8gb of ram with a fast 4 core cpu and more than adequate hdd space etc.

"Great Product ACTIVATION HELL!"

 |  Version: Magix Music Maker 15

Pros

It works well

Cons

ACTIVATION, Reactivation,Service support

Summary

Great product, ACTIVATION NIGHTMARE !
Activation is sooo bad. I will never buy this product again. If you go to their web site and log in,you can go to your account and see your products. You can re download and use the activation code ONCE. If for any reason you need it again...NO GOOD!...will not work. If you try Activation restore, you will need your computer ID number and your original Order number. All of which I have and still it will not work. I have been through this (unfortunately) many time due to hard drive failure and Windows upgrades. Buyer Beware. Tony Cassara

"Best audio/video program for the rest of us"

May 01, 2012  |  By DonFranks2010

2012-05-01 22:58:46  |  By DonFranks2010

 |  Version: Magix Music Maker 2013

Pros

Don't play an instrument? No problem. With Music Maker, you can create a symphonic sound track on your grandkid's birthday video. This program is excellent, and once you change it from "Easy Display" mode to "Expert Display" mode, you can actually find the things you need to make great music.

Don't get me wrong, even a professional music could use MM to produce great music. It's powerful, especially for the price. Download the free trial, but remember, you get a lot more add-ons and functions when you register it.

Cons

Any powerful software program has a frustrating learning curve. Music Maker MX is a bit intimidating when you first open it, but hang in there and use the available user forums for help.

Summary

Installation - ease & subsequent installs with download manager
Goya burnR is a free CD/DVD burner program.
Easy to install new sound pools
Ability to import a movie and put music to it
Program falls between MEP and Samplitude Sound Studio
* MEP edits movies, but not so good for recording songs (good for simple voice overs, not complex mixes)
* Sound Studio, great for recording music live and supports sound pools, but no video editing (has more of a professional recording layout, more control on each track).
* To get the functionality of Music Maker, you would have to purchase both MEP and Samplitude Sound Studio.

PC must be as powerful as you can afford. Get 3 Gigs of RAM, absolutely. A lot of people have problems because their Windows PC has 1 GB of RAM. Any audio/video processing program needs RAM (as much as you can reasonably install) and get a graphics adapter (1 GM RAM version). This will also allow you to go to dual-monitors, which makes working with MM even more enjoyable.

If you can't sing or play an instrument, but want to make great music, Music Maker is for you!

 |  Version: Magix Music Maker 2013

Pros

Easy to find what you need. The layout is simple to grasp, easy on the eyes, and doesn't chew up processor power. The powerful editing, EQ, pitchshifting, and resampling features make it easy to work with loops, waves, live audio, and Mp3's.

Cons

It would be nice to be able to change the color scheme of the arranger window as well as the objects within it.

Summary

Fantastic addition to the Magix product line.

"Great For Filmmakers Too!"

February 03, 2012  |  By AdobemanAZ_Bart

2012-02-03 08:14:44  |  By AdobemanAZ_Bart

 |  Version: Magix Music Maker 2013

Pros

> Intuitive user interface.
> Powerful audio tools
> Pro-sound
> Company committed to improving software

Cons

None based on my use of the program

Summary

I am a digital filmmaker not a musician; but music is a major component in my films, so I use Magix's MusicMaker to arrange music tracks provided by musician collaborators, adjust volume, EQ and adjust the stereo depth of the arrangement. Then I mix-down the music by exporting as a single .WAV file for use in my digital film project. If one prefers, a video file can be added to the arrangement so you can build a musical soundtrack that matches the video action.

Rather than give a general description of the program which you will find from other reviewers and the company's website (www.magix.com), I would like to discuss how I personally use the program and hopefully this will spark ideas and inspiration for your own music, sound and multimedia creations.

My first task using Magix MusicMaker MX was to prepare a voice file for use in a film I'm developing. I first located my file from the file manager tab in the 'Media Pool' and dragged-and-dropped into the arranger. Then I had to trim the .WAV recording to only the words required for the film. This was easily accomplished by grabbing handles at the beginning and end of the track and sliding until I was at the proper point in the recording. The Arranger can expand both horizontally for precise editing and vertically to better see the waveform.

Next, by pressing "M" on the keyboard I was able to bring up a professional style 'Mixer' and by selecting FX, bring up a classic audio effect rack with a 10-band Equalizer, Reverb, distortion a compressor and time processor. I used the compressor to limit the overall dynamics of the sound - maintaining the elevated voice passages while at the same time raising the presence of lower audible sounds.

I then wanted to create a stereo effect for the voice, so I duplicated the track (using 'Ctrl-D' on the keyboard). By right-clicking on the track I brought up the Audio Effects menu, then I selected Stereo Processor - adjusting the stereo depth and spatial location of the sound for each track.

To increase the 'spatial' quality of the track, I opened the "Reverb" effect rack under Audio Effects on the menu. I added a preset for 'Warm Room', which provided a dreamy texture to the voice.

Once I was satisfied with the voice track(s), I added a haunting background ambient music track in the arranger. Finally, I adjusted the volume for the voice and music tracks so that the voice was, yet allowing the ambient music to be present, but not overwhelming the voice.

In this example as a filmmaker, I used Magix MusicMaker MX for sound design. So you don't have to be a musician to do cool things with this program. That shows the range of utility for this software.

Magix has professional versions of its audio software line and incorporates these 'pro' features and technology into the consumer versions of their software like MusicMaker MX. So buy with confidence if this product fits your needs.
