Mp3DirectCut is a tool for frame based editing of MPEG Layers three and two. You can remove parts, change the volume (on MP3 only), and split files or copy regions to several new files. All without the need to decompress your MP3 into a PCM format. This saves work, encoding time and disk space. And there is no quality loss through any re-compressions. Mp3DirectCut gives you extensive control over your MP3s: Several prelisting functions, MP3 visualization and VU meter, Easy navigation, Fading, and volume setting.
What's new in this version: Version 2.19 added optional timeline in the audio graph and fixed Split save issue on Batch.

Pros
Works directly in MP3 format, avoiding slow conversions. Offers fast playback to locate an editing point quickly. For years I've used Audacity to remove the annoying chat at the start of a recorded radio program, but Audacity's overkill for the purpose, and correcpondingly slow. This program's really slick for such basic tasks, once you learn what all the buttons do!
Cons
There are many buttons whose purpose isn't clear unless you hover the mouse or refer to the online help (which is good and clear).

I have downloaded the program twice, from the programs site and from here, and it will not install at all. It says access denied.

Mp3DirectCut Audio Editor: An excellent free (lossless) program that doesn't degrade files if or when editing over and over, unlike most other (paid or free) Audio Editors. This is especially important when working with the already stripped-down nature of Mp3. The program is light, fast and straightforward.
Cons
Unfortunately, the author falls terribly short on including, easy to follow, step by step directions, for a first time user. Maybe waiting for users to supply a manual?
Summary
If you have the time to learn this light weight and basic program, through trial and error, it's worth having. Theres not that many commands, but it would have been nice to add directions for a first timer, rather than a seasoned user who already knows.

Joining multiple files not in batch isn't supported. The only way you can do that is by opening the files and copying and pasting their content into one of them.
