Publisher's Description
From Millpoint Solutions:
MP3 Folders is a program (for Windows 95 and above) that lets you treat a folder as a playlist for MP3 and WAVE files, with support for displaying and editing ID3v1 MP3 tags and WAVE audio headers. New in Version 1.1 was the ability to batch apply ID3v1 MP3 tags to multiple files at once. New in version 2.0 (released 8/7/2002) is an optional tree view of the computer's directory structure, a small window option with the ability to float above other apps, the ability to toggle between playing all files (like a playlist) and playing a single file, and repeat capability (for all files or a single file).

Pros
Really good idea... im a programmer myself and i was only waiting to finish some projects to start myself to write a software like this when i found it...good one get it...
Cons
Lack of some features like minimize to tray, global shortcuts (getasynckeystate) for hide the player...pause and play..change song...also bad way to randomize playlist, you should use:
play(rnd * %filecount%)
not shufle the list...

"The player I've been searching for."
Version: MP3 Folders 2.0
Summary
What a neat little music player from Millpoint. If this didn't exist, somebody'd have to invent it -- good thing it exists, 'cause I don't know how to code! I've been through numerous media/music players, the best having been "Media Player Classic" by Gabest [still fav for video] and Winamp 2.x. But if you were browsing in Windows Explorer and clicked on a music file, after it was finished playing, every program would stop playing. They wouldn't go to the next song in the folder automatically. It required manual input every time to create a simple "all" playlist. MP3 Folders can easily be set to just keep playing, and also to play randomly. Many easy cool features, like being able to delete files from the player, creating a default starting directory, super-easy ID3 tag editing, many more super-easy features. Supports keyboard commands, too (i.e. arrow up/down does volume, spacebar pause/unpause).
MP3 folders does NOT take up a lot of RAM, unlike the prev positive reviewer said (and I keep tons of apps open, too). Currently using 9MB RAM and 3MB VRAM. By comparison: Winamp is using 9MB RAM and 4MB VRAM, Windows Media Player Classic 9.5MB RAM 5.7MB VRAM. Both of those are very small, efficient programs, and MP3 Folders uses less than either on my system -- probably the most efficient I've seen.
MP3 folders is an unselfish program, not asking for ownership of any file types. You can even highlight multiple files in its "Windows Explorer-like" window, and go to a menu and choose "play [selected or all] files in external player"! This automatically writes a playlist file and opens up your default player for this file type playing these songs.
In your file menu in the program, you can randomize all the files by hitting one button. Hit it again, and it reshuffles! There's even a refresh button if you're deleting/adding files in another program. It really is like a Windows Explorer window with an intuitive music player built-in.
Major suggestion: Yikes, does not play ANY format other than MP3 (no WMA, no Ogg). Downer. Shouldn't be hard to add this support as, the prog could use the computer's own installed codecs, so don't know why they haven't bothered to add that.
Minor suggestions: can't figure out why there is no 'fast forward/reverse' function in such a complete player/browser. Left/right arrows are strangely completely unused, and should be used for this! Ctrl-left/right should skip forward/back (currently F11 & F12 do this). Finally, there's one menu dropdown which is inaccessible via keyboard command ("Favorites"; coder uses "F" as trigger key twice, first for "File"), but all others work. Could actually get a little MORE selfish by giving the option to associate file types from within the program.
If you're primarily into MP3s and you like the intuitive, functional style of Windows Explorer, you'll love this program, and it's FREE. The ultimate intelligent "anti-skin" MP3 player. -
"So easy to use!"
Version: MP3 Folders 2.0
Summary
What a great, simple program. Minor complaint: It really eats up a lot of RAM, so it starts to skip a little if you're a multitasker like me and run fifteen programs at a time. But that's nitpicking. It really is an awesome program. I love it!
