Lose It!, at first glance, feels like another weight tracker, but as you dig into the app, you'll find dozens of new features and options that really empower you to take control of your diet. From its setup, which seamlessly walks you through setting goals and calorie limits, to the barcode scanners and exercise tracker, Lose It! is a fantastic app to help you stay on target with your lifestyle changes.

When you start Lose It! for the first time you'll be tasked with entering your personal data -- weight, height, and number of weeks you want to spend losing weight. By setting a weekly goal between 1/4 and two pounds you can see exactly how long the app projects it will take to lose that weight. You are then given a calorie limit and the app will count down every time you add food to it, showing exactly how many calories you have left to stay within your limit for the day. Tools like a barcode scanner and database of foods make this even easier so you can avoid looking up calories or getting lazy and forgetting.

Lose It! offers a combination of almost every tool you could need to manage and track your weight loss efforts on a daily basis. From weight tracking to food and exercise logging, goal reminders and more, Lose It! is a must have for anyone currently struggling to keep track of their efforts.

"This is a great iPhone app to help you lose weight."

Pros

Tracks calories, excercising and weight. Links with Facebook, and others (I think), and you can share your progress with other LoseIt users of your choosing

Cons

The food database is pretty good but is missing a lot. The recipe creation is not the greatest.

Food search is slow and clunky

Summary

I would recommend this to a friend but after I used it for several weeks I became annoyed with the food search. Flat Belly Revolution (http://www.flatbellyrevolution.com), as an example, has a faster search especially for foods I have previously eaten.

"Everything You Need to Manage Calories"

Pros

The most success I have had dieting was using an accountants log and a paperback book for calories. This program has everything I need to track my intake and tracks my weight loss progress. I can view my weekly intake also.

Cons

If they could figure out a way to weigh portions with my Ipod touch this would be perfect. I have not discovered any cons yet.

Summary

Another reviewer commented on less than dietary restaurants and fast food. I am salesman and I am often on the road. Perhaps Ruby Tuesday or McDonalds is not ideal but if I have a calorie budget I can usually find it or a reasonable appoximation on Lose-It. The goal is to honestly track your habits and to known when to stop eating. If you cannot succeed using Lose-it your problem is discipline or addiction not the Lose-it program.

"Great program."

Pros

Easy. Calorie counting made easy since my iPhone goes everywhere with me. This program is the biggest reason that I was able to drop 40 pounds in three months. Couple calorie counting with healthy eating and exercise and you WILL drop weight.

Cons

Honestly, it's the best calorie counting program out there. Since real calorie counters aren't going to be going to Ruby Tuesdays, etc., that info is superfluous. A daily healthy eating tip (like Livestrong) would be a nice addition.

"Easy to use, amazing library of food"

Program allows you to set goals and track calorie use very easily to achieve a gradual and healthy weight loss. Includes adding exercise sessions to increase daily allowed calorie intake.

Cons

Does not include weight of portion sizes. Does not include suggested meals or any kind of meal planning. Does not analyze and notify about poor diet.

Summary

I have seen many suggestions to weight loss that is based on counting calories. This is easier said than done unless you have Lose It! It is simply great for counting calories.

Lose It will not only help you track calories that you have taken in, but it can easily be used to check calories in foods that you are considering eating/buying.

Lose It has an amazing library of nutrition for grocery store items as well as fast food restaurants. Allows you to choose portion sizes and it has been within 10% accuracy when comparing to nutrition information on boxes that I have checked against.

"it forgot all my entered data"

when I updated my iPhone operating system, this program forgot all my entered data - weights, recipes, records, etc. It was the only app on my iPhone that did that, so I tend to believe it's a program related error. Can't recommend tihs.

Summary

I guess it's fine, if you never intend to upgrade to a newer version of software on your phone. A sync to an online or desktop version of this program would have prevented this problem. Look elsewhere.

"really really good exercise/calendar tracker"

Pros

This is a very easy way to set weightloss goals, establish net calorie budget (it does it for you), track calories, track exercise and track weight loss. Since you take your iPhone with you everywhere (you do, don't you?) it works great.

Cons

I only wish that it would sync to a web application where you could sync data and enter information... but it's so easy as a stand-alone iPhone app that it's not much of a "con"

Summary

Really great. Good user interface. Most foods are easy to look up in their extensive database, and if you can't find something, it's easy to add your own info. I highly recommend this app. AND IT'S FREE (for now, anyway) !
