The name might be LogMeIn, but the motto should be SignMeUp.

The fact that it's free to use for multiple remote PCs, with reasonable monthly plans if you need more--five computers for $20 per month or $200 per year--makes this remote-access program instantly appealing. The program differs from its competitors in that the application runs in your Web browser. If you're running Firefox, it asks to install a plug-in and then opens an emulator of the remote PC in a new window. If you have a lot of tabs open, LogMeIn will slow down your browsing and possibly your CPUs clock speed a bit.

The control window gives you some standard options such as Ctrl-Alt-Del (which kills the connection) and changing the view settings, as well as tabbed access to adjust the connection setting. The 256-bit SSL encryption and dual passwords--one for the program and one for the remote PC's log-in--are welcome protections.

You must upgrade to take advantage of the file transfer and synchronization abilities, but creative users should be able to find ways around that restriction for small files. Still, for the functionality and the price, LogMeIn is an excellent program.

    "UNETHICAL - DONT GIVE THEM CREDIT CARD"

    Dont give them your credit card. You cant stop the annual billing. Completely unethical company.

    "DONT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD"

    liked it, paid for it for a while, but then stopped using it because company went in different direction.

    Cons

    You cannot remove your credit card or stop service from account portal. I thought I did as I stopped using the service, and found a charge on my credit card for a new service at $299, after 30 days.
    they moved me to advanced services and started charging me more for logmein central... Called, No refund even after they agreed that I didnt use the service at all for many months. Don't give them your credit card.

    "Dishonest annual billing policies"

    I had an annual subscription which I forgot about as I no longer used it. Saw on my credit card that £52 had been taken. Phoned LogMeIn and they stated that 'As per our T's&C's' blah blah they can't refund the money. No reminder was sent. I see this as unethical. So I am very annoyed with LogMein. Don't use it!

    "Stay Away Bundled with Adware!"

    Not Free even though it says free in the name!
    Bundled with 4 different adware programs with no option to opt out of them on install.

    "Ripoff service, not worth the money"

    Summary

    These guys are a total ripoff. I setup my computers with this app because it was free, they never even hinted they were going to pull the rug out from under us. Bottom line is it was a scam to get people to setup their computers for free and then when they start to rely on the service... Bam, buy the overpriced service or else you lose control of your computers.
    There are plenty of other services out there that are still free or a lot less than Logmein.

    "The Customer is Not Right"

    Confusing billing, refused to refund after over a year of overpayments, buggy interface

    I signed up for a monthly subscription with this company back in 2012 to use for business conference meetings, concept presentations, etc. After three months of the service I decided that I should save some money, so I signed up for their annual subscription -- which would save money in the long run. I'm a one-man business and only need 1-presenter. Apparently I signed up via their website for the annual using my same account information.

    Long story short, I had signed up for an additional subscription. So I had not just an annual subscription, but also monthly charges running concurrently under the same account.

    I just sat on hold for hours to get in touch with their support department only to hear that it was my mistake that their website accounts UI is so terrible. It's my fault that I asked them to double bill me for an account that was not in use.

    So $400+ later, they're not going to offer a refund.

    Use the free service, but never, I repeat, NEVER give these folks a dime. They don't operate on the "customer is always right" mindset.

    "Senior mgmt's huge flub on transition from free to pay!"

    Pros

    Loved the free Logmein service and didn't mind paying for a subscription last year, when we needed it for multiple computers and we could always reach tech support.

    Cons

    Last week we added a new 2nd paid subscription of Logmein Pro, But in trying to get some help with it, I called in on two different occasions, spent a total of 3.5+ hours on hold waiting for help that never came. They are so slammed as a result of this change and their senior management so dull that they didn't bother to predict or add personnel that are obviously needed during this transition. They want more money, but don't plan to provide service for it? And, what internet company these days is not available to help their paying customers on Sunday? Hope someone in their hierarchy wakes up and smells the customers leaving.

    Summary

    Will be looking for better service from their more service oriented competitors in the near future if nothing changes soon.
