Occasionally we come across a program that has the potential to be really great but is ruined by a terrible interface. LEC Translate DotNet is one such program. This suite of translation utilities allows users multiple ways to translate text on their computers, but the way the program is laid out makes it utterly frustrating to use.
The program is composed of five different utilities, ClipTrans, FileTrans, LogoTrans, and MirrorTrans. Do you have any idea what any of these do? Neither did we. And opening each one revealed interfaces with absolutely no direction. The only way to figure out what each one did was to visit all five of the online Help files. Once we finally figured out what each utility did, we gave them a try, with mixed results. ClipTrans, for example, automatically translates any text that is copied into the clipboard. This worked smoothly, but some of the very simple words that we used in the test text didn't translate at all. FileTrans allegedly translates entire files, but when we tried it the file that was supposed to contain the results was empty. MirrorTrans translates entire windows, but it doesn't seem to work with Firefox. LogoTrans, which translates text as you type into its box, was the only one that didn't give us trouble.
LEC Translate DotNet has a seven-day trial period, which is barely enough time to get comfortable with its features. It installs and uninstalls without issues. We do not recommend this program; although it has many functions, it's not worth the time it takes to figure out how to use it.

I didn't use the program as I don't need translators, but I'm FURIOUS how CNET EDITORS treat both shareware authors and US READERS!
What sort of review is this? Are you (EDITORS) here to heal your psychological problems by bashing useless software?
Or are you (EDITORS) here to provide US, YOUR READERS, with useful information?
If you're here to provide useful information, then PLEASE, write about useful software. We don't need your ******** about programs that you "do not recommend".
I used to be The Publisher or Editor in Chief of several magazines in the past 20 years, including some licensee editions from McGraw-Hill and IDG. I must say I'm appalled by recent editorial standards here. I would have expected this in some yellow papers but CNET... really, really sad. I wander what lies ahead.

I was trying to translate a web page/html document and couldn't get the program to do anything. The free Google Translate translated some of it, about 10%.

Where other translators are hard to setup and use, this beats them all by far....excellent, fast, easy to use and free! WONDERFUL

translations are somewhat confusing (English - Spanish) but it really makes sense......expensive translators don't even make any sense at all.

Very user friendly. The translate back window in LogoTrans program can monitor the translation quality. Now I can write emails and chat with my friends in many languages. What an amazing product!

Has small modules tailored to the task at hand. Simple and intuatieve to use.
Cons
The only drawbacks are common to machine language translation in general. Proper names and idiomatic expressions get translated instead of being transliterated.
