Editors' Review

Typing used to be the domain of writers and secretaries, but now it's an essential skill for just about everybody. Klavaro Touch Typing Tutor is an easy-to-use program that can help everyone, from beginning hunt-and-peckers to more practiced typists, improve their keyboard skills.

The program's interface is plain and intuitive, with a menu that takes you through an introduction and four different levels of typing instruction. The introduction covers the basic concepts of touch typing, and the lessons include a basic course, wherein you practice typing sequences of two or three keys; adaptability, in which you type sequences of random keys; speed, in which you practice typing sequences of random words; and fluidity, in which you type entire paragraphs of text. Klavaro Touch Typing Tutor supports 22 different languages, although the instructions for each exercise are in English throughout. You can choose from 25 different international keyboards and five different keyboard layouts. The program doesn't have a real Help file, but we didn't mind; there wasn't anything about it that we couldn't figure out on our own. We found Klavaro Touch Typing Tutor's exercises to be challenging and effective; even though we type pretty well, we still found ourselves obsessed with improving our fluidity. Overall, we think that this program is a great choice for anyone who wants to become a better typist, no matter his or her current skill level.

Klavar Touch Typing Tutor installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.

The typing software is good for learning basic typing. It is free.

Experienced typists will find it annoying.

I didn't like it.

"A very good program for learning finger positions"

free, functional, stable.

does not show wpm, limited statistics but that's not a problem. read below

There's no one single program that will teach you type. You should have 3 to 4 different programs. one program where you can see how fast you type, and shows which finger to use (say, rapid tutor), another one for text typing practice (say, free typing test), and this program you need to learn correct finger positioning.

In other programs the lessons have predictable sequence of keys i.e. 2 S's and 2 L's, 1 S and then 3 L's, so you know WHEN to hit not WHAT to hit and lessons don't change.

In this program every time you load a lesson the sequence is different, it shuffles randomly. So I find it excellent to learn correct finger positioning.

UPDATE!!! It does show WPM but in advanced exercises not in the basic ones that I was initially looking at. Sorry for previous misinfo.
