Editors' review

The latest trend in mobile devices seems to be the ability to share files wirelessly between different devices. Kies Air proves to be particularly useful as it enables users to share files from their mobile device to a PC, laptop, or even another mobile device. In its most basic form, this app turns your mobile device into a wireless server.

Kies Air installs quickly and easily. Simply download the application and you are ready to share. Access to the mobile device can either be done through an app downloaded on the second device or simply through a Web browser. The different file types, such as music, videos, SMS, and others, are neatly organized and easily accessed by other devices on the Wi-Fi network. The great thing about this app is that the files are not located on an external server. All files stay securely within the home network. The only negative experience that can occur is the possibility of a difficult connection. On rare occasions we noticed that the device could not be found on the network and the Wi-Fi connection needed to be reset. It should also be noted that extremely large files might cause the mobile device to crash or restart.

While Kies Air leaves some room for improvement, it works for the most part as a useful tool for sharing files. If a wired connection is inconvenient, this app is definitely a great way to solve the problem.

    "Used to work great"

    April 08, 2014   |   By Mergatroid Mania

    Version: Kies Air 2.2.212181

    Pros

Allows fast wireless data transfer to and from your PC.

    Cons

It seems one of the recent Java updates has broken it. It used to work without issue. You needed Java to download multiple files. Then Java did an update, the one that is forcing users to OK using each Java app. Ever since that update, Kies Air is not working properly. It will never acknowledge that Java is installed. Why do people write is Java. It sucks.

    Summary

I`m moving to an HTC this summer because little apps like Kies Air, written by Samsung, just don`t work properly. Samsung, stop relying on Java for your apps because Java is just about the worst language ever created. It`s evil.

"GARBAGE FOR WINDOWS 7. Don't install!"

    February 10, 2014   |   By LycraChip

    Version: Kies Air 2.2.212181

    Pros

    Great concept.

    Cons

None of it even works for the Galaxy S3
    WIRELESS:
App will continually show popup window informing that Java must be installed first, even if you have the latest version of Java installed. (Like I do) Subsequent installations of java produce no results.

    DIRECT USB CONNECTION:
Since samsung discontinued USB service for the S3, this was presented as the next thing which is complete crap.
Kies will see your phone, and then to into "scanning" mode forever, and never access your files.

    Summary

App is useless for Windows7 users, who are attempting to connect their Galaxy S3 to a their computer, in order to transfer files. I just use dropbox instead.
The site itself has no explanation nor remedy.

GARBAGE. I may reconsider even buying a samsung ever again.

"Like a Trojan for Windows 8"

    October 10, 2013   |   By ComputerMania999

    Version: Kies Air 2.2.212181

    Pros

Fought with it to get it working to download pix from cell phone - once got it working it was useful. From the cell phone perspective it was great.

    Cons

LIKE A TROJAN ... stole my network server, renamed it Kies Sync Server and despite removing the program will not allow me access to the server causing great grief as I need it for work. It set the server up under Other Devices and calls it Kies Sync Server - a lie, it stole it. Can't find any solutions. DO NOT USE if you are connected to other computers! Unless you really search you would presume it is a Microsoft issue but it is a Samsung issue.

    Summary

Handy for the cell phone / horrid time waster with many issues to remove it from the computer's registry despite removing it as recommended.

"I love it's purpose & it's the best approach yet!"

    June 12, 2013   |   By dillsd99

    Version: Kies Air 2.2.212181

    Pros

I love being able to connect without wires. Not to mention being able to see everything that is on my phone and where it's located. Plus the fact that text messages show and you can respond to them...I love this feature.

    Cons

The only problem so far is uploading of content to the phone (especially pictures that you may have from an old phone that you would like to put on a new phone). It can be a little confusing on the uploading and getting it into the correcting location so that you can find it easily.

    Summary

I haven't had any problems so far with connecting. My phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) has worked great with this app/software and being able to sync everything on it with my computer. In the past I have used MOTOBLUR with the Motorola phones to sync what I had on them. I've also found that Verizon's Backup Assistant leaves a lot to be desired. Motorola, HTC, Blackberry, Verizon, etc: in my opinion, none of these companies took enough interest in finding an easy way for the average consumer to sync their phones content to their computer. Everything had been directed towards the business/corporate aspect.
