Publisher's description of KPKFile Pro
KPKFile Pro 9.1 is a free complete suite of encryption tools that allows you to manage your privacy without worry. PASSWORD MEMO is a useful encrypted database of passwords letting you running your passwords in and out of KPKFile interface. FILE ENCRYPTION TOOL packs files in binary code that can be inoculated inside another still working above suspicion file. Moreover, KPKFile Pro performs steganographic encryption blurring data inside graphic files. These options are useful if you want the maximum of privacy and if you wish to hide that you are hiding something (in fact, note that the use itself of encrypted files can be unsafe). Wiping function allows erasing selected files from disk drive preceding file deletion by multiple data changing to make useless file undeletion. PRIVATE FOLDER manages a secret directory in which you can store a tree of file folders. Private Folder is a regular directory, which can be managed out of KPKFile interface too. Version 9.1 adds Export/Import of Password Memo file feature.

- Version reviewed: KPKFile Pro 9.1
It offers a suite of privacy functions, but has more nagging problems than useful tools. KPKFile Pro's plain pull-down menu and tiny button dialog-sized interface is too small to use, and there's no way to change the size of or improve fonts. The app's Help file is convoluted and thin. Functions appear merely stuck together with no feel for commonality. The app also requires the Microsoft Common Language Runtime (CLR) to install.
At first glance, KPKFile Pro appears to be easy to operate. Functions are either started with simple pull-down menus or small one-click buttons. However, most functions open new, very plain interfaces with various levels of additional menus. Someone using a function often may memorize the procedures, but casual users will feel lost each time.
Private Folder easily created a folder to hide files, but would only create it in a specific location on the drive. Closing the folder also forced users to reboot their systems. A poorly designed tool to store credit card information failed to accept some card data.
The program's Password memo stores URLs, account names, and passwords in a password protected file. Easy search and reorder functions make it simple to locate saved information. It should take only a click to copy an item to the clipboard, but this feature failed to grab data. As a matter of fact, KPKFile Pro failed for testers often when opening sub-functions to the point that the program's process had to be killed through Task Manager. File Encryption and wiping was rendered useless by the submenu problem.
We found far too little to like and too many errors to recommend this app. Any benefits of having several privacy tools under one app are offset by its problems.
