JavaRa is a simple tool that does a simple job: it removes old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Simply select "Check for Updates" or "Remove Older Version" to begin. JavaRa is free under the GNU GPL version two.
Java software in general and the Java JRE in particular allow you to run applications called 'applets' that are written in the Java programming language. You probably have Java JRE installed on your computer because these applets allow you to play online games, chat with people around the world, calculate your mortgage interest, view images in 3D, as well as many others.

"Couldn't solve Java 7 update problem"

Pros
Seemed to work, and installed an old version of Java that ran.
Cons
When I updated the older version as requested by JRE, it failed. Back to square 1

The GUI is now pretty.
Cons
The older versions could do so much more. You can't even remove the startup entry "JAVA Update Helper without using a third party app. In essence, the programmers removed 7 or 8 things you could do and made the program safe for dummies. It is basically useless now. I loved the old version, which didn't have a nifty GUI, but was WAY more functional.
Summary
Download version 1.16. And stay away from this new version (2.1). It is bloatware, more or less.
After further review, you CAN remove the Startup Entry. The objects that are missing are "Remove Previous Versions" and under additional tasks- Remove JAVA IE BHO, Remove Sun Download Manager, Remove JAVA Console Extension,and it no longer creates a log file (and the ability to delete.) There are a few more JAVA RA specific tasks. In retrospect, maybe it's not as bad as I thought. Just trying to be honest here. Wish they would have kept the other options, though.
