JAlbum is a long-time favorite free Web album generator. There's no wizard to direct you through the process, but a quick look through the menus will be enough to get you started creating image collections online.
To begin, specify the original image folder, set the album-destination folder, select the images, and generate the album--it's really not more complicated than that. Using the integrated FTP client, you can upload your album to your Web site or you can use the integrated Web server to serve your album from your computer. The JAlbum site also lets you post your projects to their Web hosting service for free, as long as you don't mind registering your name and e-mail address. There are several great-looking templates and skins to choose from, with more skins available online from JAlbum.
Recent versions include a lot of new tools, most notably a photo editor for basic manipulations, such as red-eye removal and cropping. If you've been looking for a new way to post your photos, JAlbum is a great choice with an extremely easy-to-use interface and plenty of options to create the perfect album.

What's new in this version: Version 10.3.1 has updated Portuguese translation and fixed some bugs.

JAlbum is an excellent tool to capture any all photos you want to place in an album. Creating an album is so easy, unlike some of the other album creating software available on the Internet. Annual cost is reasonable for hosting your albums, if you don't have your own service. Go and get JAlbum - you won't be disappointed.

"Good, But Doesn't Handle Directories Correctly"

Makes very nice looking albums in a very simple way. Overall, probably one of the best freeware album making packages available.
Cons
Doesn't handle directories well at all. The origin, output, and directories are mixed up in some weird dance of directories, forcing them to be in three different locations, and yet unmovable once the album is created.
Summary
A good album creation program if you like to keep your pictures in one set of directories (and never move them), you like to keep your album definitions in one set of directories (and never move them), and you like to publish through the jalbum web site, or some other web site, rather than using the albums created by directly transferring them someplace through ftp.

NONE -- these guys deserve the 5 star award !!! Installed on Vista flawlessly, FTP client even re-connected, and finished upload, when interrupted. This is software is like a web masters dream--only real !

Generates the HTML for pages, links, etc. and thumbnails and easily publishes the album to a remote site. Easy to quickly generate a photo album.
Cons
Very little documentation: just some FAQ's on the website. Changes to albums, once published, are therefore not easy to do.
Summary
This was the first photo gallery creation software I've used, and I was originally impressed with how easy it was to generate an album. By simply dragging-and-dropping files into its window, clicking a "make album" button and then a "publish" button, you can create a gallery of thumbnails that link to full images and upload it to a website.
On the other hand, going back to update, modify, or rearrange an album after publishing it was frustrating, to put it mildly, and uncovered a few bugs (unless they're "undocumented features"). There is almost no help available aside from a (very) few FAQ's and a forum (which seems to be regularly monitored).
It's a shame that such an apparently full-featured and powerful program is made so much less usable than it probably could be because nobody bothered with documentation. I'd be tempted for this reason to give the program only a 3-star rating -- were it not for its overall capability and quality of what it does.
