It's no use saving files to CD if you can't remember where they are. With InsideCAT Lite Edition, you can catalog your CDs in a central database for easy browsing and searching. The program can index archives, too, and its powerful search tool works with tags in file formats such as PDF and MP3. We liked the idea behind the Collector tool, which lets you select files for a compilation. Compilations can be saved in one step, with InsideCAT prompting you to insert the right discs. However, we got endless error messages when working with this feature, and the dreadful interface makes even the features that work extremely difficult to use. Also, we missed a built-in viewer for documents and multimedia files. For straightforward cataloging and searching, InsideCAT Lite Edition is adequate, and if you don't need to catalog more than 100 discs, it's free. However, some may rather pay for a more stable, easy-to-use package.
