Real techies know the word hacker doesn't refer to a computer criminal, but someone who likes to take things apart and figure out how they work. The aptly named Hackman Hex Editor Lite lets programmers get down and dirty with hex code (and if you need to ask what that is, this isn't the program for you). More than just a file editor, Hackman provides direct access to ports, RAM, and hard drives. It has a clear and austere interface that ought to appeal to serious software developers. It's extensible, too, thanks to macros and plug-ins (an SDK is included for creating your own). Besides the main editor, Hackman comes with a plethora of minor tools for editing INI and DIZ files. Unlike many hacker tools, however, it's not free. Until you pay the $39.99 registration fee, you won't be able to save your work. That caveat aside, we think Hackman Hex Editor Lite is a great tool for working with computers at the byte level.Publisher's description
