If you like news tickers, you'll find this RSS reader hard to beat. During installation, you choose whether to place Guru News Ticker in your IE toolbar or in the taskbar at the bottom of your desktop. From there, you can select what type of headlines you want. You can click a passing headline to open a browser window that shows the story, or you can mouse over the headline for a small and scrollable drop-down window. We encountered a few script errors while running the program but nothing that made it quit or freeze. We liked the instant access to news items, the configurable fonts and colors, the feed options for different types of news, and the ability to add our own RSS feeds. The 20-day demo limitation is a bit short for our tastes but still gives you enough time to check out the program. If you want headlines scrolling past your work space or browser window all day, Guru News Ticker provides flexibility in both story options and appearance.Publisher's description
From CMP Soft :Guru News Ticker loads RSS and RDF newsfeeds from news agencies from around the world and displays them as scroll text on your desktop, inside your Windows taskbar or inside Microsoft Internet Explorer. With a click of the mouse, users can open the selected news article in their favorite Web browsers. Users can select an unlimited number of news channels through a channel-subscription wizard. Additionally, the built-in search functionality of the product allows users to monitor eBay auctions as well as create their own custom news channels from Yahoo and Google News sources.
The program has the ability to show a preview of an entire news article in a drop-down window by the user simply hovering the mouse over the scrolling headline of interest. Once the mouse is moved, the article fades out. Other included functions are customization of colors, fonts, the scrolling speed, and the frequency of headline updates. Version 2.0 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
