Editors' Review

Chrome for iOS harnesses the power of Google's Internet browser for your iPhone or iPad. The latest update brings voice search, pull gestures, and support for password managers.

All data on all devices: Add your Google account or accounts to get your Chrome tabs, bookmarks, history, and other settings on all your devices. If you do not want this functionality, edit your sync preferences under Settings. Click the star on the bottom left of the page to see your saved bookmarks, and click the clock to see your entire history on all your connected devices.

Browse more, use less data: Chrome harnesses Google's power to optimize the pages you visit, thereby using less data and saving you money, if you're not on an all-you-can-eat data plan.

Search by voice: Allow Chrome to access to your microphone, click the Google Voice Search symbol, and speak your search query into your phone. Chrome will deliver the appropriate results the majority of the time -- in our tests, 9 out of 10 searches were fruitful.

Innovative tab layout: Rather than clogging your screen with annoying tabs, Chrome presents one minimal box on the top-right corner that tells you how many tabs you have open. Click this box to pull up the tabs and switch between them. To close a tab, swipe from left to right. This is much easier than crossing out tabs the old-fashioned way on a tiny screen.

Incognito mode: Click Incognito to search privately. Pages you view in Incognito tabs disappear from your history, cookies, and search after closure. Switch back and forth between regular and Incognito tabs with side-to-side swiping.

Pull gestures: The pull-down-to-reload gesture is an easy way to reload pages while on the go. Or you can pull down and to the left to open a new tab, or pull down and to the right to close your current tab.

Support for password managers: Chrome for iOS now supports 1Password, LastPass, and others.

Clumsy Back button: The new swiping gestures are great, but it's hard to go backward and forward in the same tab by clicking the small left and right arrows in the top-left corner.

Bottom Line

Chrome for iOS is one of the best iOS browsing apps we've tried. We highly recommend it.
