CNET Editors' review
This free e-book provides information on the blood sugar levels produced by different carbohydrates and their impact on diet, but it's fairly superficial coverage.
You don't need to install Glycemic Index and Weight Loss; it runs from an executable file. The interface is pretty basic and the home page image appears bitmapped no matter what size you make the window. You can flip through the pages with easy navigational buttons, jump to a specific section from the table of contents, or use the search tool, and there are tools to adjust font size for easier reading. There are only 10 pages, three of which are five-item lists of foods to avoid, eat moderately, or eat at will. Content is light on the other seven as well, and some of the program's credibility was undermined by awkward writing, like the page titled "Too hard to refrain of sugar?". A BMI calculator is included, but it only supports metric measurements. The last three sections are descriptions of other products and links to download.
Glycemic Index and Weight Loss is free, but only covers the basics of this diet approach, and users should have no problem finding a more comprehensive resource.
Publisher's Description
From Fitness Attitudes:
Glycemic Index And Weight Loss is a ranking of carbohydrates based on their immediate effect on blood sugar levels. It compares foods gram for gram of carbohydrate. Glycemic Index And Weight Loss ranks carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar levels after eating. It doesn't tell how much of that carbohydrate is in a serving of a particular food. A low Glycemic Index diet is not necessarily a low carb diet.
