Publisher's Description
From GiMeSpace:
GiMeSpace Desktop Extender provides a smarter way to use your desktop. It is a small and very simple program for Windows XP or later versions that will allow you to expand your desktop without any limits. When you move your mouse to the edge of your screen you will notice that your desktop extends beyond the borders of your normal desktop. There is a pop-up navigator panel where you can see your whole extended desktop and move your windows around. It provides a cheap alternative for adding more monitors to your computer. You can resize you windows to a size that is bigger then your physical screen.

"Excellent Replacement for Pan & Scan Virtual Desktop"
Version: GiMeSpace Desktop Extender 2.2.6.103
Pros
With Windows 7 killing off pan & scan virtual desktops, GiMeSpace does a great job of providing the functionality of the pan & scan. It makes you more productive by lining up your open programs side by side, extending beyond the actual desktop.
Cons
The only cons are due to the limitations imposed by Windows 7. The author has done a great job of being very responsive to his customers and keeps refining GiMeSpace based on their suggestions.
Summary
GiMeSpace now aligns the top of each window with the active window, making it even easier to use. It's really a great productivity enhancer -- if Microsoft were savvy, it would license the technology from GiMeSpace and make it a part of Windows 7 and 8.Essentially as you move your cursor up and down or left and right, the open windows move. So you can several programs open at the same without them overlapping and at full size. GiMeSpace really makes using Windows 7 a whole lot easier.

"Best Replacement for Pan-and-Scan Virtual Desktop"
Version: GiMeSpace Desktop Extender 2.2.2.94
Pros
Enables you to open application windows larger than your physical screen so you can view documents full size and not have to use time-wasting scroll bars very often. Lets you set window sizes and keep specific windows from scrolling.
Cons
It's not a pan-and-scan virtual desktop. So the applications windows move on and off the edge of the screen. Takes a while to get used to. Hard to control detached menus in some applications.
Summary
With the advent of the WDDM graphics subsystem in Windows VISTA and Windows 7, the pan-and-scan virtual desktop became a thing of the past. Unlike XPDM, the graphics subsystem in Windows XP, WDDM will not let you extend your desktop beyond the borders of your monitor (it's an incredible productivity enhancer). Microsoft did this once before, I think with Windows 98SE, in order to steer users to buying multiple monitors -- a genuinely reprehensible practice.
GiMeSpace Desktop Extender is the only decent option available in Windows 7 and VISTA. Your application windows can be set to be taller than your monitor's screen (or wider) and they will scroll up or down on your screen. You can set application windows to appear side by side, to specific sizes, and not to scroll at all.
It's the best thing we've got in Windows 7 and VISTA. It's no pan-and-scan virtual desktop which was the great productivity enhancer where your desktop is actually 3 or 4 times larger than your monitor's screen. Move your cursor to the right edge or bottom and the screen moves -- a far better alternative to what GimmeSpace does, except for the fact that it's no alternative at all since Microsoft decided to disable the ability to create a pan-and-scan virtual desktop in Windows VISTA and 7. So GimmeSpace is the best thing going in Windows 7 and VISTA and I'd strongly recommend it to anybody who has delayed upgrading to Windows 7 due to the absence of the pan-and-scan virtual desktop capability.
P..S. I've tried using a Windows XP video driver in Windows 7 to get the pan-and-scan with my ATI Radeon video card. The XPDM graphics subsystem is present in Windows 7. WDDM, however, is the default graphics subsystem. Amazingly I got the pan-and-scan virtual desktop using the ATI video drivers that enabled it in Windows XP. It worked -- except that it rendered the computer useless due to the very frequent crashes (BSOD). If you figure out some way to get an older ATI XP driver to work in Windows 7 without BSOD, let us know your secret. -

"Great program for extending desktop"
Version: GiMeSpace Desktop Extender 2.1.4.82
Pros
Extends desktop size and not just add more desktops.
Also tried 360desktop which was nice but this program uses less memory which is a plus.
Can enlarge desktop both vertically and horizontally.
Great support.Cons
None that I can think of.
Summary
What I wanted was a larger desktop to open several windows at a time an be able to back and forth between them quickly. There were other programs which had multiple desktops but I was not able to have different program interact with each other. I emailed the programmer about setting the display size to a fixed size. He sent me two or three upgrade beta versions and had the program solved in a few days with a new option that I personally requested. Great support. For what I need this is perfect.

"Super! Absolute perfect for my netbook!"
Version: GiMeSpace Desktop Extender 2.0.3.69
Pros
It gives me all the space I need on my tiny little netbook. Windows 7 doesn't allow me to use higher resolutions then 1024*600, but gimespace gives me unrestricted space to work with many windows that are bigger then my screen.
Cons
When many programs are using a lot of processor time, the scrolling becomes a bit interrupted, but I solved this my giving gimespace a higher priority.
Summary
Very well done! Gives me all the options to enjoy more desktop space and leave the taskbar, desktop icons, toolbars and gadgets where they are while I scroll through all my application windows.
-
"Even better than the real pan and scan function."
Version: GiMeSpace Desktop Extender 2.0.3.69
Pros
Perfect! It does a better job then the real pan and scan function because it leaves the desktop icons and you taskbar always in the same place so they are never far away.
Couldn't do with out it!Cons
Non, I can realy don't think of anything to improve this product.
Summary
Great product that does exactly what I want: space to move my windows around and the ability to have windows that are way bigger then my screen. And that all is not affecting my normal desktop. Taskbar and desktop icons stay where they are and when I press scrolllock everything behaves like normal. Perfect!
